This is the new age and era of college football, basically free agency every year. You not only have to recruit high school players but your own roster every year, and it all has to make sense budget wise. Money.

No body should be surprised all this bought up talent is leaving after firing a inept coach. It is what was thought would happen.

The entire exercise was just a big waste of time and money

Jville I know you have this list in chronological order but could you order it by position instead? That would be helpful

I predict this is what will occur with a lot of our players ’entering’

I believe this, and we made it even worse by paying them too much to start, they perform just a wee bit, and expect a raise on top of a bloated number.

And as you said, they hit the portal and reality hits, and we realize we can get far more in the portal for someone with less pay.

I hope we stand firm and do not take these kids back. Once you hit the portal thats it. Ive used this example before, but would you let your wife say, hey Im gonna go horn around, if I dont find anything better Ill be back?

You allow this and you will constantly have players doing this with no consequences. You let the first batch stay gone, the rest will think long and hard before they enter.

Now I see they have taken the step to "threaten the portal as a group" ie 3 DL at once, now talk of other DBs joining in as a group. What a cancer, let them go.

This aint no union fellas, ya leave, ya leave.

Give me some junction boys, fellas that want to be here, and earn their pay. Not pay and they may leave if they arent pampered, even though they dont perform but they have "potential".

Well, he'd definitely have an idea, wouldn't he? They need to get the crazy on3/247 projections under control. I've read several players suggest they're not getting that.

I haven't done a deep dive into those numbers to know exactly what they represent, however, anecdotally, they seem inflated.

Good God. Shut up about paying players too much. If anythng we should be paying a suck tax. When are you going to rake Miami or Texas Tech over coals for breaking the bank.

We are football fans. Stick to football weirdo. Stop actively encouraging recruiting to tank.

Big difference between a lifelong commitment and kids playing sports.

I'm thinking splash factor. Where you have to consider how big a hole they made when leaving. And how big a splash if they return. I 'm seeing corporate head hunting, where if you get the chance to better yourself go for it, and after you gained some new skills you might indeed be a valuable asset to a former employer. It's all about the skill set and it's now marketable instead of the olden days of God, country, and favorite institution. The days of a 4year degree being a lifelong perk is not being pushed hard enough.

We also don’t have the benefit of being UGA, Bama, etc… so have to pay a little more to get there.

Uat and thUGA were paying more than anyone else to get where they have gotten too. It was just not public at the time.

I get what you’re saying but this isn’t a lifelong marriage. And grace is a powerful thing, it’s the only reason some of us will get into heaven. So I disagree, obviously, under certain circumstances

I have a feeling this very concept is going to happen to some of the players that want to test the waters, no doubt. I think we should understand this is a business now, and you have to take absolutely everything into account

This!!!

Hugh probably overpaid them on their “potential” to get them here. Some haven’t panned out. Some have, but still haven’t reached levels of production equal to their pay.

The new Coach comes in, evaluates their stats, and rightly wants to renegotiate their deal. These players, with an overinflated sense of self, get their egos hurt and enter the portal.

All these star ratings don’t mean a thing if it doesn’t translate to the field.

It’s his program now. Let’s sit back and let him do his thing.

Just some talk on a lazy Saturday. I have seen lots of talk around the channels on portals. AG has offered a few of these guys less than what the Freeze staff was giving and they portal. So far they arent liking what the market is offering. Unless some desperate teams enter, a few of them will return.

I’m glad the portal is now “leveling” out, and it’s indirectly based on your performance on the field.

In addition, a lot of the new Coaching contracts are incentive based.

You have no clue if they dont translate to the field if they havent been seasoned and coached up yet. You are among many undervaluing the depth of our roster.

We are not talking about sunk costs.

quote:

A sunk cost is money, time, or effort already spent that can't be recovered

They can be recovered and squared up. If you can convince me we are losing players simply because they want more and more since they are greedy little shits then I wont say another word. But I am willing to bet Jace Matthews was let go because Golesh was offering a smaller check than promised. That stuff sucks and shouldn't affect average football fans but it does in a time when the clearest way to win is spend and spend

Obviously, star ratings don't mean anything after the fact.

But it has been proven over and over and over that star ratings (potential) from high school are really the only thing that matters in terms of seriously winning.

At some point you have to pay big time for potential and star ratings are an excellent gauge actual impact.
