As for QBs I think they are looking at Tristan Tia out of Oregon St.

Everyone is waiting on the fella from Ohio State. I think he had a few other visits first. He said all the right things on his exit interview. JLee said the coaches talked to him about not just guard but more a utility lineman, cause they thought he had the skills to play inside or at tackle.

There is also the Skinner fellow from USF an IOL.

We need a couple more OL but I have not heard names, have you guys?

That or we could end the charade that these guys that change schools every year give a rats arse about the education aspect and just end the enrollment requirement altogether. Let’s just call this a pro league that is sponsored by universities.
that part

pretty much the enrollment part is the only vestige remaining of what we once referred to as “student athletes”

i cant even imagine a kid with multiple transfers making any kind of real academic progress, why keep up the charade any longer

It’s funny that you mention that. I was talking about that exact same thing to my son last week. That used to be a real danger, being academically ineligible. I’ve personally not heard about it in years. Guess kids are just smarter now?

What does that say about him?

That he didn’t expect $aban to retire thus bringing in Julian Sayin who even Noland knows is better.

He jump from OSU to the cocks but couldn't break in the starting rotation

You think he is competing to take the starting job from Sellars? No, he thought he would transfer to USCe and Sellars would be going to the NFL and he would be looking at starting. Sellars surprised everyone by returning. He also CAN return the year after. Sellars is the paid and established QB1. Do you guys even pay attention to Meta? He has said over and over that when you have an established QB1 in today’s game where he cost you 3.5-5m to lock down, they aren’t having a QB competition. That person is your starter period.

So there are two major surprises that have happened with the teams he has picked. We don’t have that issue. We don’t have a NFL qb coming in. Brown WILL be gone after next season. We will absolutely be looking in the portal again next year for a qb.

quote:

Take a look at that back up from USF...knows the system and if he wasn't able to compete at the SEC level do yo think this staff would have taken him here at AU?

Yeah the kid has potential, but let’s call a spade a spade, he isn’t projected to make it to the NFL. He MAY could, but under no circumstances am I prepared to put all my eggs in 1 basket especially a 3 star that was the 61st rated qb in his class, and rated 1094 in the portal.

Also I find it interesting you bash Noland for not sticking it out to compete with 2 NFL QBs, while you are absolutely fine just handing the keys to the kingdom to some unknown QB who has a famous dad because the coaches think he can. Personally I’d rather sign as much talent as possible and let the best man win. And like him or not, like his decisions or not, Noland is talented.

quote:

I really don't want anyone that we went after that HF was high on. I don't think he had them right in the personality dept. Skill level yes but probably not in the head space. Too many games & not enough seriousness

You do realize we went after ALL the top players in the country under Hugh don’t you? We didn’t get a sniff from some as I’m sure they saw through his nonsense but Hugh was high on every single top 100 player. Now do you really want to abandon top 100 players because our former coach wanted them? If he could have signed the top 100 kids every single year he would have. Saying you don’t want “ANYONE” that Freeze wanted is about the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen on here. Not calling you dumb but that stance sure is. I get it though, wanting a clean break.

Hugh’s group was star blind as is the national publications. We need professional scouts that spend the year identifying the positions, players and talent needed, then go after them.

In this day and age, there is no reason not to have a group by position that we are prepared to sign. Is it tampering, yep, but it’s the wild west

Regarding Bill Kaz, I used to go to his gym in Auburn on occasion back in the late 90’s. I remember seeing him around town sometimes too. He was a mountain of a man, even at that age (50s?). Truly impressive. Certainly inspiring at my young age.

My parents ran a restaurant next to Kaz fitness so I got talk to Kaz quite a bit. He is the nicest most unassuming guy ever.

As I said in his high school recruitment. Air Noland is very overrated. That team he played for was absolutely stacked. At 54 now I could throw left handed (I’m right handed) and won like he did.

I’m sure the kid can get better but QB bust in college is nothing new.

I was wondering if we would target the center from USF. Getting him and the Ohio St guard COULD stabilize our line.

OSU QB was open when he jumped in the portal in Dec while OSU was playing TN. Sayin was coming in potentially but he decided to transfer. So he was either told he wouldn't make it. Sayin didn't get there until Jan. Competition open but he left to go to USCe

Neither was the current Heisman winner. I am not saying the kid will be the next heisman guy but you say Noland is better but based on what? Arbitrary stars? Same could be said for Jackson Arnold but look at what happened there. I will take our Current coaches to pick up the best situation for us. I know they like competitors just like Signetti does when he talked about some of his players being upset by the portal picks for them.

Yep I do. But he didn't discriminate of who would or wouldn't fit not based on talent but on other things like work ethic, being a team mate etc. I don't trust his judgement and never did. Sorry if that makes me flawed so be it. I grew up with many people being hollier than though thumping the bible but not living it the rest of the week. I better trust our new coaches more. I understand their mentality better.

Sure. Yeah look at what happened to AU over the past 3 years. We did upgrade our roster but did we really get better? 4th & 32 and Freeze didn't want us to blitz? We heard about the locker room problems & really no discipline. Threats of not playing unless they get money. etc...no thanks. Those are the guys that freeze brought in...so yeah I kind of stand by my statement. No discernment...just go chasing stars...
