No I don't think the school is responsible for taking care of players parents. I do think a stipend or some form of reimbursement beyond a scholarship is warranted.
do you feel that minor league baseball players should get paid more than they do? They average around 25 to 30k a year. How much do you think a full ride college scholarship, housing, nutritionists and top notch personal trainers would go for in a year? Plus they do get stipends, that is how most of them drive around fancy cars under the rules of the NCAA. They get housing allowances that are large, food cards and then a small amount of cash I believe.

Since minor league baseball players are contracted employees, I cannot feel sorry they only make 30,000 a year. Besides, I know for a fact that Tyler Stovall was sitting pretty nice in instructional league ball with his bonus and small under armour deal. Not only that, he got a free education worked into his pro contract as well.
Comparing NCAA student athletes to the minor league players is dumb.

I'd forgotten about cost of attendance increases. I think they're a good compromise between not paying to play but providing additional financial aid

This was my other question? are we no longer keeping it, "down home cuz?" Why didn't someone arrange a "sitting" job for her in million dollar house. I know Uncle Milty can't give out ATM cards at the Greentrack anymore so what's the new system

I think a significant portion of players would prefer some type of minor league system where they're paid 30-40k per year vs going through the motions of college?
I mean what exactly has Ben Simmons gained playing at LSU this year outside of a broken spirit

There's a lot of money going around in CFB that schools are coming up with asinine ways to spend it (big video board) rather than it trickling down to the players who actually need it
You should like a Bernie Sanders supporter...
Hate it for his mother and I hope his move helps that situation but it is not the responsibility of Gus or anyone else in college football.

The NFL uses the NCAA's as an uncompensated minor league program. It benefits the NFL and the colleges, but not the players. There needs to be a minor league football organization that allows for high school kids or non drafted college kids to play in for pay.

He and Lawson are good friends.
He has battled a severe case of dyslexia, and was still able to qualify.
He has gotten thehelp he needed at AU. This kid is driven!

No need to pay athletes to play.
If Basketball/Football was set up like the MLB, I would completely agree.
As it stands right now, college sports are a business and the players are employees. The money spent on ridiculous recruiting gimmicks should be funneled to the players instead.

don't know about a year but for 6-7 weeks getting ready for the combine it costs from 50-70K depending upon where you go. THat is food, nutritionist, personal training 6 days a week plus housing.

Reminds me of the Chris Porter situation. He needed money for his mom to avoid eviction. Sixteen years ago. LINK

Two people familiar with the case, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity, said yesterday that Porter needed money to prevent his mother from being evicted from her rural south Alabama home. Porter's mother, Emily, refused to comment on the situation when reached at her home in Abbeville, a town of about 3,000, about 100 miles south of Auburn.

Maybe Chris should have laid off the coke and pot then. I knew Chris in high school and college and he loved his pot.

4.54 first run for Barber. Pretty decent run for a ~230 pound back.

Know what his split was? That's a great run for his size.

Maybe but he had a bad day. Sounds like he was pretty much at the bottom of the list on everything today

Possibly, but I see him as a kid who makes a contract, or two.

Nfl.com had him in the top 4 for the three cone drill and 20 yard shuttle times.
