What a G5 circle jerk t trying to get Gus to say there isn’t much of a difference between power 5 and G5.

Someone really just asked Gus Malzahn, former Auburn coach, if he understood what kind of pressure cooker he’s walking into at UCF.

It doesn’t. Auburn still owes him every penny.

No offset for buyout. We're still on the hook for the whole thing.

Gus' contract is 5 years for 11.5 million at UCF.

Gives him plenty of money for assistants.

So...he's getting roughly $2.3 million a year to coach at UCF, and that much again NOT to coach at AU, on top of the ~$10,500.000 check we cut him a couple of weeks ago.

Nice work if you can get it.

Plus trips to Disney/Universal whenever he wants.

Gus is playing 5D Chess while the rest of us are just playing with sticks.

And in true JABA fashion, Auburn loses to UCF, coached by Gus Malzahn.

Auburn only loses to non P5 schools when it’s coached by Gus. Mason would shut his offense down, just like any DC with a pulse has since 2015.

Auburn paid an AAC coach $49 million. And $21 million just to go away. Brilliant leadership.

Perception is fickle.

Was this the same mindset you had when we were about to take the field against FSU in the 2013 National Championship game?

Did you think we had abhorrent leadership when we were about to play in the 2nd title game in 3 years (most say Gus was the reason we were there in 2010 also, along with Cam)?

Did you think that Gustav had sustained the level of performance that led us to the 2010 and 2013 BCSCGs by the time his contract extension was being negotiated?

I think we were in general agreement that serious consideration should have been given to retaining Gustav's services following the 2017 regular season. Do you think that anyone here, even the most ardent of Gus Bus riders, would have agreed to the terms set forth in the final agreement if they had been part of the negotiations?

Nah, a case study should be done on Auburn and that 2017 season. Everyone was sick of him, and he shite the bed in epic fashion after LSU 2017. He should’ve been fired after that game. Period.

But instead, he took a minute and coached his arse for for UGA and Bama, and they gave him a nearly decade long contract of guaranteed money, and he went back to his lazy arse coaching and lost to UCF.

I just had to laugh a little from his comments.

This is one of the top 20 coaching jobs in all of college football," Malzahn said.
“When this opportunity came, I was ready. I really believe they're getting the best Gus Malzahn of any time in my career, for the fact that I had eight weeks to reflect, refresh, evaluate, and to be better the next time you do it."

“At times, we had some of the top offenses in college football," Malzahn said. "Last year, we were the least experienced team in our league, and that had something to do with it,”

“There's no doubt in my mind we're going to have one of the best offenses in all of college football."

Malzahn said he will call the plays at UCF and has determined he will never relinquish playcalling duties again.

“We're going to do everything in our power as a program to give our guys a chance to do that, and I truly believe we will be in the final four in a short period of time."

I'm prepared for him to recruit a true DT QB. I'm prepared for him to average 600 yds offense thru that league. I'm not prepared for him to beat UGA in next year's bowl game, which probably will happen. Also, not prepared when he beats Auburn, which is probably coming.

Not sure if any of that is true. I do wish Gus success at UCF, just not against AU! (or UGA, because I'll punt kittens.)

While this assessment has merit, it misses my point: we should have given SERIOUS consideration to retaining his services after 2017.

As in, "What are the pros and cons of keeping him our HC? How much more should we offer in compensation? How much does it mean to the stability of our program if we let him leave for Arkansas? Whom could we realistically go after if he left?"

Instead, it appears Sexton came to us with a rumored offer from Arky and we said, "whatever it takes, we'll pay it! and more!!!"
