From JGT:

Corroborating that big dick Harsin got our receivers open down field.

“The deep shots were there. I remember at least three; none of them were completed. (The big play to Shenker was a particularly virulent intermediate route.)

AU needs a quarterback who can get them more competitive downfield. Better QB and receivers who are better aerial duelers. With that said, Hudson wasn’t the problem yesterday; he was so open that he didn’t need to duel.”

I can’t believe how easily some of you just completely fall apart watching this stuff. Harsin clearly called a good offensive game yesterday. Agree with the one criticism on that late sequence but if players execute it’s no issue.

You can’t dance around your players lack of ability forever. Gus tried to do that too much and it drove me insane. At some point you’ve got to call the best plays you think will get guys open and give your team a chance to score and Harsin did that time and time again today. These are D1 athletes expected to make plays and they didn’t. Oh well. Recruit better and move on. A couple messy play call sequences shouldn’t affect anybody’s opinion of Harsin and I’m probably lower on him than most. Some of you played Madden and think you have it all figured out.

The early FG was just kinda 50/50. The analytics say to go for it there and most aggressive coaches go for it in that spot. Multiple coaches who would have been dream hires for this board go for it there.

Harsin was fine. If Jeremy Johnson connects on a few of those deep balls we win easy.

The thing is.......he doesn't have that in him. Everybody in the stadium, and watching on tv, knew that. Stop calling those plays. Call plays to your strength, not your weakness.

I honestly don't think BoBo would have called a worse game. I said this in another thread..........I think Harsin called play after play with TJ not having that club in his bag. He kept trying to fit square pegs in round holes.

Lol what are our strengths? When you barely have any strengths, you have zero. Because the defense keys on them. You HAVE to mix play calling and Harsin did a good job of testing all levels of the field to keep them honest.

The most concerning thing about Harsin confirmed in yesterday’s game to me is simply the fact that he brought TJ Finley onto the roster. Even if just intended to be a career backup I already have concern about QB Eval

certainly not the deep ball.

We ran it well on them. I will give you a series......

INT on the sideline.

Deep ball.........incomplete

Run for a few

Deep ball........incomplete

Punt

You are setting your players up to fail if you continually call plays that you know will most likely not work. It is absolute stubbornness. We have been living with that for far too long.

We had 3rd and short twice during that game when we tried to run for a first down and both times failed miserably.

Also regarding the 4th down call instead of fg were you also complaining when a few drives later in almost the exact same situation, we went for it on 4th down, got it, and eventually scored a TD? No, because you’re just playing the results.

So easy to sit back and cherry pick play sequences after the game. You can’t just run the ball every play. But you know that.

Finley had 37 total passes and our top two backs had roughly 26 total touches. On paper it wasn’t very balanced but the holes in their defense were in the passing lanes.

There isn’t much difference between 7-6 and 6-7. Both are shitty results. Our record wasn’t by accident so now our first year head coach has to get to work.

What he wanted was to bang our rb’s against stacked boxes.

He wanted our coach to NOT take what the defense was giving.

The polar opposite of Gus forcing square pegs down round holes.

We lost 5 in a row and 3 were upsets. 1 just a bad game, 1 we had our rival on the ropes. I’m more concerned with knowing how to win and close that requires coaching and player execution. The staff laid a huge egg last 5 games. No excuses.

Also, to stubbornly play shitty QBs without giving anyone else an opportunity is the worst of it all. Finley is not the answer. Can’t win with him. He cannot scramble at all. Slowest QB we’ve ever had and that says a lot.

Houston was 11-2 fwiw, one of those losses coming to an undefeated playoff team. Houston was favored in Vegas by the time the game started. Really the same narrative as most of our losses this year - we were in a position to win late in the game and just couldn’t close it out.

I haven't mentioned a damn thing either way about it........but yes, I would have taken the points. I am of the mindset that you take every point you can get in the first half. You chase points in the second half, if needed.

You have no clue whether Davis gabe us a better shot to win. You also don’t know if he even deserves the opportunity. You are firing off grievances based on ghost evidence and reason.

Once we got some momentum on the run and TJ showed his inabilities, they started stacking the box pretty often. Harsin (and our players) still found ways for us to run the ball against a loaded box.

Imagine if we had any sort of deep threat how that would open things up for our running game.

I guess I'm in the minority. I thought the play calling was good. Opportunity to execute was there, we called well against the D.

CBH has to understand when to get points or play it safe, and when to be aggressive. That would be my biggest point of emphasis from a game perspective.

I agree with this. He hopefully has learned that he has to pick his spots to be aggressive in the SEC because the margin of error is much smaller. He made a good bit of questionable calls in the name of being aggressive and it cost him a few games this year. Teams in the SEC will capitalize on your mistakes.

As the HC he probably made the call of going for it vs field goal or punt, but he likely wasn’t calling plays in those situations, so take that into consideration as well. I’m looking forward to next year.

Remind me again, what conference does Houston play in?

I guess Ga State is some kind of powerhouse too?

I'm all for giving Harsin a chance, but to be honest, he's off to a terrible start! Two assistants fired in the first year. One during the season. Losing record. Legacy QB transfer out before his senior year. Questionable recruiting.

IMO, next year is make it or break it for Harsin. He can't survive another year like his first.
