Guess we will learn a lot about Geriner by how he reacts to this. If worst case is this move pushes him to work even harder, and makes him better, that works too

Ole Hank may surprise us, I know he came from a small school but he has a great grasp of looking at the defense and the right touch depending on the throw.

Maybe but it would be nice not to have a project at QB for once

I am actually missing Stidham and that's bad

Oh I agree, in no way was I suggesting baby goat might play this year. Just nice to have some decent potential qbs already in the fold.

I think Thorne will do just fine, far better than what we have at this point. The exciting thing is recruits will get to see the offense and the fun exciting schemes.

Remember the ole days of Gorgeous Borges, that was an exciting offense to watch and one you would want to play in.

He was also Hugh Freeze's qb that came with him when he became HC at Auburn. Not saying the kid is going to be ready at a true freshmen, but if Freeze wanted this kid, there is something there.

I don’t expect much out of Brown at Auburn. But as you mentioned, you never know which guys will pop. Thorne was also ranked outside of the top 1000 as a HS kid. It would be nice to hit on a guy like that finally

Still need a receiver or two, IMO. Hopefully Thorne can help us land one

Dilfer seemed TO'd that we snatched him from UAB.

I haven't watched much of Hank Brown's film, and I wouldn't know how to evaluate it anyway, but if there was a way for a stud quarterback to sneak into college completely unheralded, this is it. He relocated from the Chicago area to Tennessee, he sat behind an eventual D1 QB as a Junior (went to Cincinnati), and he tore it up as a senior. He played for a loaded team in a weak division, so his numbers always come with an asterisks. He's a capable basketball player, so while his speed isn't incredible, he is agile.

I read an Athletic article in which Dilfer recounts a preseason practice game they had against a higher division team (before Hank's Junior season). All the other QB's were sick, and their stud running back was out. Hank got the start with no prep that week and threw for 370 yards.

His film looks really good. Kid can spin it

and to be fair, I like the underdog players that get overlooked and underappreciated and Downtown Hank Brown fits perfectly in that mold

Would need full game tape against one/some of the better teams he played to really tell. Watched his huddle and he makes all of the throws, but any D1 QB is going to make all of the throws in his HUDL tape. For sure has the arm strength to hit deep balls and doesn't look like he is straining to throw them. Was hitting guys in stride against man and putting the ball into zone gaps. Looks like some of the competition he played was pretty unathletic, just judging by some of the separation in his tape and some of the tackling/size differential.

Yea his competition was terrible. What is good to see though is the 73% completion percentage. Some of the extra yards and TD's resulted in just abysmal defense and tackling, but Brown is hitting open people on target. If you are playing in a lower division, I want to see a very good completion %, that is more of a good sign than yards or TD's IMO in that type of scenario.

Yea exactly. If you're throwing a lot of balls, you can make a tape showing you hitting every throw. The consistency of those throws and what happens when you miss/how bad is it makes the difference.

Meta, as the saying goes, if everyone else is an a-hole then you’re the a-hole.

Message boards are for discussions. Some people will have different opinions than you.

I agreed with you but did so with a different reason and you still busted out the holier than thou/know-it-all routine. Lighten up and take a deep breath and you might realize you’re one of the dickheads you hate

I think you're mistaken and you seem to be getting quite butthurt by me lately, even though I haven't said frick-all to you.

I don't "hate" anyone LOL. What room are you reading? Who do I hate?

I'm seeing opinions being raised and I'm responded to them. Some are quite silly, as I'm sure you're aware. For example, to pretend that Ashford can be excused because he was "injured" is silly because what he showed on the field is literally his entire M.O. dating all the way back to highschool. He looked the exact same in Fall camp when TJ Finley beat him out to be the starter. So that's a lame-arse suggestion to pretend like Thorne's injuries aren't applicable in the analysis of his "regression" because hey - Robby Ashford was also injured! The difference of course is that Thorne actually has a point of reference of highly successful play to suggest that his "decline" might be exacerbated by injury.

Anyway, why do you people completely misconstrue my intentions and then pretend like I'm hateful lmao? This current saga started because someone suggested that Thorne was barely an upgrade to Finley. This was a completely out-to-lunch take and I responded to it. I actually wasn't even mean in my response, but here we are pretending like I'm being hateful? What?

I don't make things up. I'm actually not surprised that there are AU fans who "aren't impressed" by Thorne because if you recollect and pay attention, there are people in this fanbase who will literally argue that Bryce Young is average. Some of these guys seem to actually believe that what, there are only a ~dozen QB's in the country who are a clear upgrade over Robby Ashford? Perhaps a healthy Ashford is only a notch or two below Bryce Young? . Am I the a-hole for accurately pointing out that our incumbent starter is LITERALLY a ~3rd string QB who got pushed onto the field for no reason of his own doing lol?

I really don't need a lesson on what a message board is or that everyone is entitled to an opinion. I don't care who posts what; post whatever opinions you want. If I respond to it, it's not because I'm being an a-hole or I'm hateful. I think you're seriously over-interpreting my alleged "intention" or "mood" when reading my posts.

He checks a lot of boxes. Love that he’s a multi sport athlete. He really wanted to be at Auburn and I think he’ll actually stay a while.

My expectations there are low but that’s for most of our QBs that aren’t in the upper upper tier.
