You’re correct. He has 2 years eligibility - which I think propels him to our highest priority QB target.

quote:

A 2-year starter, Thorne has thrown for just under 6,500 yards (6,494) and 49 touchdowns in 3 seasons. MSU considered Thorne a redshirt senior for 2023, though the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver means 2020 does not count against his eligibility, allowing him to potentially return in 2024 for a 6th year.

Auburn made Fletcher Westphal's top 5 along with Arkansas, Clemson, Florida, and UGA

Thompson > Thorne to me.

Thompson fits the system more, has more experience, and I like that he only has 1 year as opposed to 2 years. If Thorne sucks, then we are stuck with him and he had major regression last year. If he was bringing that WR with him I would probably move Thorne up a bit.

The WR doesn’t like Thorne lol and is a big reason he entered the portal.

Why do we like Thorne?

Because he's not named Ashford, Geriner, or Finley. He's not good though at all and really speaks to the sad state of affairs the program finds itself in, not that we needed anymore reminders.

1) System fit - based off of what? Neither guy is a runner.

2) Experience - not true. Thorne has 776 pass attempts to Thompson's 535 over the past two seasons wherein both were actual starters. Thorne has considerably more reps overall.

3) Eligibility - you lost me at this one. If Thorne sucks, then he just gets pushed out the door or sat on the bench. This isn't like basketball under Bruce where you're stuck with this guy. His two years of eligibility means that there's no pressure to rush White onto the field. A guy with one year of eligibility means that you better pray that Geriner or Ashford (lol) aren't just duds, otherwise you're back hunting for a transfer QB after next season as well.

Tomorrow is May 1st.

Ain’t no savior walking through that door at this point.

I like Thompson more.

Although neither had a lot of rushing yards, Thompson is just more mobile and better at the RPO. Mich State doesn't really run that kind of offense.

Fair enough. Thompson just seems like he's been around a long time lol.

Unless I'm wrong, even if he left the team the scholarship would still count against the team for as long as he has eligibility, so I should have been more clear on that. You're right that I'm counting on Geriner or another transfer next year in this scenario though.

Like I said, Thorne had major regression last year. He's trending down and I would rather not be dependent on a guy like that. I won't be upset if we take him, but I just prefer Thompson.

"counting on Geriner" after a year of tutelage under three QB whisperers, I like the sound of that.

Ron Roberts just put the bat signal out on Twitter. Hoping it’s the Cincy edge.

Need to watch Mcleod against TAMU, he's a massive upgrade over anything we currently have.

Edit: tweets are about McLeod

On3

@On3sports
Ohio State WR Kaleb Brown has entered the NCAA transfer portal, per
@mzenitz
.

Brown was a top-110 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class

I hope we are after this feller.
