Florida is about to have a QB drafted round 1. Granted, he probably shouldn't be.

Florida’s offense looked pretty bad for their spring game, and there wasn’t a drop of rain.

Link?

SI has fansites now that allow just any Joe Blow to post whatever.

And I’d think that would spell good news for us as he shouldn’t face a hurdle finding a graduate degree at AU. He should qualify for pretty much whatever.

I always knew KN was a Gators fan but he is making me hit the unfolllow button. Is he working for the national ON3 team or is he covering Florida?

It might be rude to say, but I won’t miss watching him tweak out on every Auburn Live video.

Quotes from Joseph Phillips:

quote:

According to Phillips, there was no reason to wait any longer in getting his big offer list cut down to five.

“Pretty much I was just ready to get it out of the way,” Phillips said. “And I knew who was really talking to me and who was really paying attention I’d say. There wasn’t a point to keep holding out.”

Commitment timeline:
quote:

“It’s going to be the first weekend of August,” Phillips said. “I said I would wait until the middle of the football season, but I’m pretty much leaning to the first week of August.”

Benefit of taking an OV to Auburn:
quote:

“Pretty much the only benefit I would get is like a day to enjoy myself (there),” Phillips said. “Other than that, I pretty much know every single thing about Auburn. Just a chance to be around the college is still exciting more than anything else. Getting to hang out with the players, stuff like that. A normal person wouldn’t be able to do it.”

quote:

According to Phillips, Tigers’ coach Hugh Freeze is still communicating heavily as expected.

“Oh yeah, he just sent a group text out not too long ago,” Phillips said.

His message:
quote:

“Pretty much let’s start a wave, get in the boat and help recruit some of these other guys,” Phillips said. “It’s a big thing like I said, if you commit early you can help recruit for your class. Pretty much like Walker White.”

On Walker White:
quote:

“Yeah he texts me, we text back and forth,” Phillips said. “He asks me when I’m going to commit and stuff like that. He’s genuine though, he’s pretty cool.”

quote:

“It’s not so much him being a top dog, it’s the type of person, like the character he has,” Phillips said. “Pretty much, he’s sort of just like us: cool, calm, outgoing, laughing. He’s not scared to make new friends. He will come up and be that person that will talk. That’s just that leadership of him too. Him being a quarterback, he displays it. You can see why he’s one of those high class quarterbacks.”

quote:

Phillips also added that White’s size surprised him.

“And, he’s built like a linebacker himself,” he said.

Difference between AU and UGA:
quote:

What is it about Georgia that has Phillips’ attention?

“I would say they have that same family vibe type feeling,” Phillips said. “Georgia is one of those places, it’s like another Bama as far as skill wise and coaching wise, but when they’re out on the field it’s like a father and son relationship. They’re going to make sure you’re ok, call and check on you. The players seem like they want to be there.”

quote:

“Even with Coach Kirby (Smart) cussing them out, if a player wants to stay there it goes to show he’s doing something right off the field. They can get cussed out all day, but when they get off the field it’s another vibe.”

quote:

Georgia has had more success than Auburn in recent years. Does that factor play into Phillips’ decision? According to him, it’s more about the players than the school itself.

“Honestly, I understand why people see the difference between a national champion versus Auburn which hasn’t succeeded like that in a long time, but that doesn’t make a team,” Phillips said. “We could very much come into Auburn and if we have a good team that comes together and plays football, we could do the same thing. We could go to Georgia and have a bad team, then it goes down hill. You can’t just base it off them being back-to-back champions. That’s not what makes champions, the team and players have to make them champions.”

Surprised Phillips hasn’t pulled the trigger yet.

He's wanting to play the game, I think the coaches will ratchet the pressure up on him pretty soon, like they did Phat.

It sounds like they’ve continually recruited him harder than anyone else, per his own comments.

Phat situation is a little different in that AU had the leverage to pressure Phat due to who else AU is recruiting at RB and who we were battling to get Phat, FSU who may not have been pushing much and Penn State.

I don’t see AU pushing this recruitment in the same manner considering who they’re competing against and what other options are being recruited at the position. Play the long game and trust he’ll want to play at home.

Those are valid points. I’ll be interested to see how Hugh handles recruitments against those guys over the next couple of years.

I think they will tell Phillips to make up his mind. There are some other targets on our board that are actually ranked higher than he is. He waits he may find the spots taken at all his favorite schools.

Now receivers, that I would agree with . Thompson, Coleman, Ryan Williams (they say he is reclassing to this year), any of those have a guaranteed spot, heck Freeze would rent himself a room at the motel 6 and let them move into his house, if the dorm was full, to make space for any one of them.

Although many may not like the two signing periods, NIL, or the portal. I think it has shifted the power back to the schools and away from these hat shuffling 18 year old kids. Making many commit early and ensuring they perform once they get on campus or they will be replaced.
