Supposedly coaches were pushing for Phillips to commit so sounds like they thought guys were closer to pulling the trigger than they actually were.

I bet you collins is not a take at this point, as some have mentioned, a lot higher ranked tight ends are making trips he may be down the board a ways.

Sounds like we are moving a lot of our officials to closer to signing day and just using unofficials during the summer.

And a lot of positive buzz with a lot of good players.

If Riley is saying his top three are us Bama and Georgia, he may as well commit now, cause Bama is only taking one and he is not top on the list and I think Georgia already has two RB commits. He or Hall and we are good to go. That running back room is layered just like you want it, thats what all our positions will look like in a couple of years

Like most years, not concerned over the commit total before summer. Unlike most years, I’m pretty happy with who we have on board already. I do think summer is more important nowadays than ever so we’ll want to see a strong response then

Oh I agree Jonesy, and though many may not like the early signing I do think it has shifted the momentum back to the schools and away from the ole hat switchers at every announcement.

Sure you will hold spots and hope for the likes of a Cam Coleman or a KJ Bolden. But a lot, a lot of these 4 stars are going to have to make a decision or the bus will move on without them. Riley is a good example. He is probably top of the board, but if he does not make a decision this summer, we move on to Hall, Hood, others and call it a day....and he misses out on his top three....or more.

Course this becomes a lot easier when we are more relevant as a program eh

Judging from the pissing match over on the thread about "2 QBs" sounds like MJ Morris out of NC State is a real possibility. Thoughts?

MJ had decent passing numbers (609yds 7 TD’s); he’s no threat to run. All of his stats came against the #44, 83, 115 total pass defenses in the country last year. His game against BC (#44 pass D he completed 50% for 1 TD/1 INT) so I’d say he did pretty much what he should’ve done against those teams. He’s not a guaranteed starter at all imo (just based on stats - I have t actually seen him play/seen film). If we get a transfer I think they need to be a day 1 starter. Although with TJ potentially transferring I think we could use MJ as an extra scholly QB with experience for the fall.

ETA: NCST QB Ben Finley has entered the portal. The QB 1 job at NCST is down to Armstrong/MJ Morris right now. I’m not sure Morris hits the portal even if he is QB2. He’ll be all but guaranteed to start next year for them.

I don’t think Morris is the only QB we take.

Morris is good; but I’m not sure he’s take and risk having multiple transfers good.

You obviously have more insight than most of us smuphy, your reasoning makes perfect sense, we will probably lose two of the three currently on campus. Better make sure we get what we need in the portal ie two QBs.

Literally just said this on ON3 before getting on here lol.

The thing about this next portal window is its mostly made up of guys who lost the job in camp. Maybe if we get really lucky we can find a starter in that group, but its far from a guarantee. And if we do, I don't see why another transfer would come in just to sit behind them.

I expect us to bring in 1 guy who can compete for the job, but anything more than that is just icing on the cake for me.

LB DJ Barber will announce something 4/23, thought to be a commitment

Which should be Auburn. He’s a 3*/4* guy depending on the site.

Edit: Barber told JLee it’s just a top 8

There's nothing better than being in the final eight.

Morris can be second string this year, watching a portal guy they brought in while he was injured last year.

Or have a good chance to start at Auburn, a school who recruited him out of Carrollton, and the alma mater of his momma. When momma is happy, everyone is happy.

And I dare say Auburn is just a little higher prestige than the wolfpack.

Course this is my Auburn glasses view lol.

I hear what you are saying 33, but there are a lot of 2nd string QBs out there, with experience, that are better than what we have now. And sadly that can be said for a lot of positions on our roster.

Still think during this portal you are going to see players challenge that SEC transfer rule. Bet you would see some QBs from the SEC enter the portal then. Some wont win the starting job and wouldnt want to transfer outiside the SEC, but if they could within the SEC would enter.

Lanier, I believe Jonesy is referring to the fact that this is the kid.....Freeze told him to keep a notepad next to his bed and mark down every time a head coach contacted him, and if anyone got close to Freeze, to let him know on the next phone call.

Then Travon Reed told him to put him on the list too, and let him know. lol

Got a love fest going on with the kid.

maybe I'm not remembering what I was like in high school but I don't think I'd want to get daily calls (or more than that) from some middle age college coaches. Will they pay $50 per call b/c that might be something I could get behind.

My oldest son is a Wolfpack grad and I work with people that are big contributors at state. Was at a meeting with a few today and they weren't surprised that he may transfer and were indifferent about AU. The conversation instantly turned to Russell Wilson's transfer back in the day. Lol.
