Should we go all out melt mode since Duke was not at the open portion of practice today?

- For the first time this week, freshmen weren’t set off to the side to try to absorb information as spectators during the open-viewing window of practice. All players were in shells and intermingling during drills when the media walked in.
- Auburn’s defense was working on drills at the start of practice. Here’s what the first-team defense appears to look like so far:
Defensive line: Carl Lawson at Buck, Montravius Adams and Dontavius Russell at defensive tackle, and Davonte Lambert at right end.
Linebackers: Kris Frost, Cassanova McKinzy and Javiere Mitchell
Cornerbacks: Blake Countess and Jonathan Jones
Safeties: Tray Matthews and Rudy Ford.
- Auburn’s second-team defense looked a little something like this:
Defensive line: Raashed Kennion at Buck, Devaroe Lawrence and Maurice Swain at defensive tackle, and freshman Byron Cowart at right end.
Linebackers: Justin Garrett and Tre’ Williams
Cornerbacks: Joshua Holsey, Carlton Davis and Javaris Davis
Safeties: Stephen Roberts and Nick Ruffin
- Six players were working on fielding punts during special teams drills: wide receivers Darius Slayton, Jason Smith, Marcus Davis, Ryan Davis, Griffin King and cornerback Javaris Davis.
- Three players were taking turns fielding kickoffs as well: wide receivers Ricardo Louis and Stanton Truitt, and safety Rudy Ford.
- Auburn’s first-team offensive line, from left to right, went: Shon Coleman, Alex Kozan, Austin Golson, Braden Smith and Avery Young.

Am I the only one who looks at our individual names on D and gets excited, but thinking about them as a unit scares you? (Based on our shitty D the past few years)

Horton was praising Jason Smith today per someone at practice. He's going to be doing it all. WR, reverses, punt return

OL sounds like there's potential to dominate.

Will definitely be intrigued to see why Duke wasn't there. It could be he was doing some extra personal stretching or something with the trainers. For some reason I seem to remember him doing that some during practice last year and people would freak out. May be wrong though.

I wont get excited about another one of these "special" players. I did with Trovon after we heard so much about him and he was meh. Jason Smith will need to earn my excitement.

There is no denying his ability just go back and watch his highlight film. Whether that translates to the field we'll see but it sounds like is is so far.

@AUBlog: Lashlee says Duke Williams wasn't at practice today while dealing with "personal business." He's day-to-day right now. "No concern at all"

A lot of "personal business" at the start of practice...

Agree. Lets say that you , me , AubieG and I am sure I can get Rocky, start the melting process Monday if there is anymore "personal business" that gets in the way of practice
It will be needed

If he started at DB from day 1, he would have been a very solid contributor. Thanks Troop-a-loop

We look at individuals and see unbelievable athletic potential. When we see them as a team, we see how unbelievably inconsistent and their inability to utilize their athleticism.
Guys like Cass McKinzy, Kris Frost and Monty Adams all have the frames and athleticism to be 1/2 round NFL picks yet their results arguably are 6/7. I wouldn't pick Kris Frost up as a UDFA league minimum if he doesn't stop being a marshmallow

At the beginning of the year, don't get concerned about these phrases. It's probably getting class schedules and stuff figured out. If they had said "he's dealing with academic issues" the twitter sphere would go ape shite. Personal issues is just a lot softer way of saying there is the day-to-day issues of life preventing him from being here right now. Like when I'm late to work cause my toddler sharted his pants today
