I don't know how much coaching matters with our defensive problems. It is a recruiting issue. Talent on that side of the ball sucks, Rodney Garner and Ellis did a shitty job of evaluating talent at LB and DL. Lance is an excellent recruiter and for all Muschamp XO's knowledge we sucked on D until Lawson came back.

If it's Lance, it'll just go to show how fricked the mentality is around the program.

I'm not saying this is wrong, but is there evidence? Was he responsible for recruiting Foster for instance?

Could be he was the best we could get. Auburn is known to have a short leash with our HC's. Scares off a lot of asst's.

He recruited Cowart and Holland didn't he? My thing is he may suck, but if you can't get Kelly or some other major DC why hire an up and comer with more unknowns than LT. Besides the scheme would be the same and we would have continuity.

It is clear based on the comments that there is not a consensus pick for DC. Regardless of who is selected - many here will cry like a bunch of entitled babies.

Was reading a thread over on AUF....a guy who has had some inside things before said Gus wants Kelly from FSU but the feeling is not mutual. Gus is staying on him though. TIFWIW.

I'm surprised that there have been no rumors, or inside leaks, or much of anything regarding our DC search since Sunday when everything fell apart. Usually there is a bunch of "noise" during a coach search and Gus should have been working on this for at least a week now when the original interest for Boom was announced.

I know there isn't a bunch of positive thoughts on this board after this season, but I'm not ready to write Gus off after his first true poor offensive season, and I still think we can turn things around. I just hope we don't settle and continue to go after the best possible candidates. We are solid football program playing the best division in college football with multiple championship appearances the past 5 years.

The problem is that we're asking a DC to come and take over a unit that was near the bottom 3rd in FBS with one of the best DC's in the business. Our HC is also on the hotseat, so do you want to saddle yourself to that horse? It really is not a good position to be in to hire a DC.

We need a good hire, but we also need a coach with longevity.. This coaching carousel we are on is pitiful and needs to stop.

Absolutely agree. The problem with longevity at coordinator is that good coordinators often get HC offers, and no one wants to keep around the alternative. Ideally, we hire a guy who is 3 or 4 years from getting HC consideration at any job of substance. That guy is successful (enough to help Gus win and keep his job) and makes the job more attractive.

Havent been reading this thread but Malzahn has said privately he wants the search over by the end of the week. Kelly and Pruitt are his top two.

Kelly is being demanding. Wants a lot of money/guarantees.

I'd say Pruitt is more likely right now.

Personally it is hard for me to see Pruitt coming here. Could happen I guess. I just don't see it happening. What concerns me if the things that I have read that happened at Georgia are true about Pruitt being very difficult to get along with, Malzahn better be ready to handle that type situation. Maybe someone has some insight or can shed some light on Pruitt and what happened at Georgia. It seems that the players really liked him. If Pruitt does come, I don't see him here for long. The man wants a HC position. This search maybe (because of the circumstances) like Chizik's last search for an OC, everyone kept speculating about a home run hire and we wound up with Loefler. I guess time will tell.

Why does everyone keep saying Pruitt? The man HATES AU. He is a bammer thru and thru...I would have a hard time with him at Auburn, I would be afraid he was one of Saban's sleeper cells

Plus, he had problems with Richt and I could see those same type of issues with Malzahn. There is a reason UGA looks to be cutting ties with him.

Has there been an ETA on the hire?

Will it be before or after Bowl season?

Recruiting wise can we afford to wait?

I can't believe Gus would entertain Pruitt. They are nothing alike. Gus wont even say shite or frick while Pruitt lives the life of a porn star. Muschamp and Gus were different enough, but Pruitt is even more his opposite.

Good coach, but as was said, a bammer through and through. He bleeds crimson and white. His issue with Richt was likely that Richt wasn't willing to cheat. Pruitt is too full of bammer and wants to run the program like bammer (i.e. gotta get them recruit$ no matter what it take$).

I don't buy into the sleeper agent thing usually, but with Pruitt I would have to make an exception. I could see him intentionally sabotaging AU and then bolting to Saban after a season or two ready to hand over all the intel.
