Then, flash forward to the Cam and Marshall offenses - doesn't it seem strange that in both cases it took Malzahn literally ~3 games to even figure out what he had in his hands
4 GAME GUS!!!!
In 2013 it took him 3-4 games to figure out Tre Mason was the man at RB.

What is the exact date that Gus’ buyout drops to $21 million?
quote:Unless someone knows otherwise, I believe this is the case. And there’s no mitigation, so we would owe his full buyout amount even if he gets another job.
Gustav’s deal went into effect on 1/1/18 and runs through 12/31/24. That’s 7 years.
To keep the math as simple as possible, lets assume he makes an even $7 million every season. That means at the end of this calendar year AU will have paid him 3 years ($21 million) and have him under contract for 4 more ($28 million).
His buyout is 75% of his remaining deal, so that means if we fire him as of 1/1/21 we would owe him $28 million X .75 = $21 million, of which $10.5 million would be due by 1/31/21, the rest paid in monthly installments over the remaining 4 years.
And unless I'm mistaken, the amount remaining on his contract is based on a monthly rate, not a yearly rate, so it doesn't drop significantly on any given date, just gradually goes down the first of every month.
So using the above math, Gustav gets roughly $580,000 a month, so his buyout drops by about $435,000 on the first of each month.

I am not sure what happened to Gus. He kept DC's constantly guessing and the opposing D on their heels. At some point he lost 3/4 of his playbook.
No? November 8, 2014 happened. That was the day Gus Malzahn lost his mojo.

Amen. I always think of that game

Butt fumble was the beginning. Losing to a shitty UGA team afterwards, then choking in the Red zone vs bama followed by a doink off the upright in the bowl game. then the real pain happened. 2015-2020 with a glimmer of hope in 2017 only to be crushed in the SECCG and subsequent bowl game.

It's all one big blur of mediocrity now. But fret not my fellow Plainsmen...Bob Stoops incoming!

so we would owe his full buyout

The amount of names on some of these lists and almost none have the 2 names that should start and finish the head coaching list (assuming we cannot lure an Urban Meyer):
1. Brent Venables. I know he's been at Clemson for 8 years and has rejected interviewing for every job that has approached him. But the money wagon should start here and force him to say no. This is the #1 of all #1's.
2. Steve Sarkisian. There's a lot that would go into this hiring and the first one would be to make sure he's healthy and not on the sauce. The second would be to make sure he can handle the pressure of playing against Alabama and not with them. The third would be that he's one of the top offensive minds in the country and a great recruiter. This is another no-brainer for me

I don’t get the allure with chasing coaches from Saban’s Bama coaching tree. The result haven’t been particularly special for anyone.

You’re mostly right although Kirby has been good

Prolly move on with my life and hope Auburn wins a bunch of games next year and when they inevitably don’t I’ll hop back on this thread or the next version of it
