This is a bit from an email that went out over Cohen's signature.
quote:
This settlement will eliminate scholarship caps and enable athletic departments to share revenue directly with student-athletes, while leveling the playing field through the implementation of an annual cap on the funds which may be directly distributed.
Auburn student-athletes will benefit tremendously with revenue sharing and additional scholarships. Living out our championship-level commitment, Auburn is fully funding revenue sharing, a $20.5 million investment. Auburn will also allocate 113.8 additional scholarships year-over-year, at a projected cost of $5.49 million.

Having the revenue of 20.5m isn’t the question how many can afford 20.5m out of their budget.
I can definitely see the Big and the SEC splintering off in the near future in football.
So does this mean UConn is gonna win the basketball championship each year cause they will use their 20.5 on basketball.
What a mess.

Yes this is crap. It also allows some governing body to pick and choose who’s cheating and who’s not. We know how that works.

Same ole shell game to keep consumers distracted …. while the tv networks continue to monetize “amateur “ sports and its fans

152 school had a revenue over 20 million.
What would be the % an AD could put into this?
100% seems excessive.
How many of the 152 cleared 20 million after expenses?

The link provides revenues and expenses.
For example Alabama would not be able to cover with a $19 million delta.
But we would be able to cover with a $23 million delta.
But to answer your question, not a lot of schools had a profit greater than $20 million.
Prices for everything are about to go up.

So, does this mean those of us that canceled OTV a while back or never were donors are now able to bitch about AU sports again?
Seemed the OTV donors here said us donor-less weren't afforded the right to complain. We back on even ground?

Is demand for sports truly “inelastic?”
I use to have season tickets, now I don’t.
I have not been to a game since 2019.
I have been to an away basketball game.
I don’t plan to attend this fall.
I just can’t imagine the tickets can go to the moon to cover all this.
A $200 or $300 seat needs to be more than a hot aluminum bench.
I don’t see how more than 50 teams will be able to really compete in a $20,000,000 salary cap league.

I wasn’t aware no limit on scholarships. I knew there was something surrounding walkons and the judge not wanting to do away with walkons opportunities
There will now be roster limits (higher than current scholarship limits). Everyone on the roster CAN be on scholarship but is not REQUIRED to be.
The tragedy to me is that that will effectively end walk-ons, the kids who are there purely for "the love of the game."

Auburn's football program made about 60 million last year, the new TV deal will increase that starting this year, probably about another 10 million, plus the nike deal.
"Sources" within the SEC predict the 20.5 million will be about a 77% split between football and all the other sports.
So the questions:
The football program gets 15-16 million......but that is just an anti for the larger programs who will then tack on NIL funding (sounds like good players are about to make real bank).
But this "clearing house" how the heck do they decide if a kid has a valid NIL deal. You can set the guy up with some NGO for charity, make him the spokesman and pay him a salary for the business. There are a myriad of valid ways to get around this.
And what if you set it up, tell the kid the number, and after the fact the clearing house says no, the kid is screwed? Or you dont offer and all the other schools do (like what is happening now) and you are left high and dry on the recruiting trail?
I wish they would have put a cap on NIL as a whole and called it a day.

Schools are making promises right now that they have no idea if they can keep. I heard Auburn Live guys are telling kids to wait until December to find out what they’re going to get offered. I expect to see a lot of flipping going on come December when these kids find out these other schools were lying to them.
