Gogue has all the authority if he wants to take it. I don’t think he cares who is hired as long as a proper process for that hiring is followed though.

BoT and money people could threaten (to pull funding, get him fired, etc) Gogue of course, but BoT members know they have to tread carefully (2003 redux) and others can’t really hurt a guy who already retired once

Auburn will never have a dynasty with meddling from arm chair quarterbacks that think they have a right to just because they have money.

No one

Thats it.

Someone with as little leverage as Napier, and we can't land him....??!!

I judge anyone who would be willing to take the job at this point.

frick it, just give me Clark. If they'll let him pick his own staff, maybe it works.

It’s going to be Steele.

For some unknown insane reason our BOT and money ppl want him.

No coach, other than a yes man, is going to have a staff pushed on them.

Kiffin or freeze might, only because they wouldn’t have a choice and are desperate, but those are about the only two.

You're right. I confused one average QB for another.

Put enough constraints on the non-Steele candidates and then Steele is the only one left standing. I don't think I can handle the inevitable wave of Steele sunshine pumpers and apologists.

We are about hire Bill Clark.

Is he a winner? No doubt.

The problem... He has only coached collegiately at USA, Jax St, and UAB. The guy probably hasn't coached an SEC caliber player since he left Prattville HS.

Can you imagine his coaching staff at Auburn? Does he have any high level SEC recruiters or coaches that he could hire?

Auburn will bring in solid players regardless of who our coach is, always has. But with a guy like Clark, who will be completely out of his element, we will just slide and slide until we are a bottom rung SEC program.

Clark ain't out recruiting Kirby or Saban. He may out coach them in spots, but when you are overmatched talent wise it doesn't much matter.

I don't want to label our program as an "underdog", because we fricking aren't. We are one of the big dogs.

Hiring Clark is fricking quitting and settling into some weird underdog role like UAB does.

This is amateur hour for sure. He is going to get smoked on the recruiting trail - at least initially.

He must win
