Well it's kind of hard to announce your hire when the guy is in the Caribbean. He would have to be here for that. And I'm sure once he gets the job, he's expected to recruit right away. So give him a week to "decide" while he's taking a break from everything.

The University could announce (or even leak) the information that Boom and AU have reached an agreement although the formal announcement will not be made until next week. Boom could stay on vacation - the media attention around it would recruit itself for a week. PLus, that would give Gus time to go ahead and call Boom's UF recruits and get in their ear, then Boom follows up once he gets on campus.

I just hope Sexton isn't leaking this info just to get more money out of somebody else.

We could. It doesn't look good though when you hire a guy and his first week on the job, he's on vacation. Plus, does one extra week of recruiting really help us? I don't think so.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the Florida HC situation and the announcement there. Maybe there is a strategic advantage to getting some of the recruits to follow Will, but is better to wait until after the Flordia position is filled? Maybe use it as leverage with recruits, i.e. "you see so and so, McElwain is now the HC and he'll be bringing in so and so and you just won't be a good fit in that scheme like if you came to AU"

Will be very interesting to see the staff that Mcelwain puts together at UF, especially on defense.

That wouldn't be a reason to wait though.

McElwain was just hired btw for those that haven't seen it.

Wow talk about underwhelming. I don't remember him bieng some great offensive coach considering he had Ingram, Richardson, Julio and the bets OL in CFB history.

Wonder what the staff will look like

I guess he was trying to say he wanted to help JM sure up recruits at UF before they just jumped ship and followed Will to Auburn.

But money wise Will will probably be making him almost as much money as a DC as JM is as a HC.

On a side note, I wouldn't be that excited if I were a UF fan about the hire. He isn't exactly someone that's going to create alot of buzz with recruits until he actually wins and his offense isn't that stellar.

I don't know how much he will win early

Florida will be putting in a pro style offense with Treon Harris, a dual threat, as their best QB

Their RBs haven't been dominant

Their OL will lose 2, potentially 3

Defensively they are going to lose Fowler and a couple others

Yeah, I didn't say much on the CCB, but this is a meh hire. He was tearing it up out west with Dee Hart ripping through those crappy D's. I am glad UF hired him.

Florida really would have been well-served to take AU's approach on the coaching search. Put together a committee of interested parties. They could have included Danny Wuerffel, Emmitt Smith, Chan Gailey, etc.

Don't I remember 'Bama fans constantly bitching about CJM?

I could be wrong. Some of their fans bitch so much, the message gets diluted.

They were. IIRC, he had major issues in the red zone.

The difference in UF and Auburn is............UF has an AD. We have a JJ. JJ needs help. Foley needs no help.

I would disagree considering he just hired Jim McElwain

McEllwain is a solid hire. He actually had a pretty good offense. Saban really controlled it. Trust when I say it isn't easy to recruit at CSU. The setting is pretty and all but it's a literal cow town.

He has done a pretty nice job there and think he could do well at UF. I am looking forward to seeing it. Recruits love this guy. He isn't flashy but comes across very well in the homes of recruits.
