If memory serves me correct I believe BZ is from Prattville and his views even more biased than mine.

Exactly. And the stat people are using about him turning the program around defensively are skewed. He came to Memphis after a huge exodus of players. He took over a very young team and they gradually got better on d each year as a team should naturally progress. His D will hurt this year or next when all those seniors graduate.

To be fair, I'd love for a coach to gradually improve our defense as players get older.

Because Memphis was routinely fielding Top 10 defenses prior to this "huge exodus of players", right?

Nothing is being skewed. He hopped onto a bottom-feeder team that hadn't fielded a passable defense in god knows how long and he turned them around completely. They aren't just "good" defensively, they are great.

Here'as my hardcore feelings on Bill Clark as a possibility of being our DC. I would be nervously excited. Excited because I know what BC's potential is in defending spread and tempo teams and recruiting ability from high school. He excelled in all those areas. Nervous because he would be a high risk because the only possibly known about him in college is he still gets gets his players to improve greatly over time just as he did in high school. None of his other great high school attributes have been proven at the college level yet. That mainly is due to he has not been at a major job yet for those things to be evaluated yet. High risk with the potential of high reward. I would rather not take that risk as much as I love him. Boom is low risk high reward.

If it were a possibility, I'd be cool bringing Clark on as a position coach. Let him get his legs under him in the SEC, start building up the recruiting relationships, all that good stuff.

Like E said, the risk is just too high right now to take on the full DC job.

If it's not WM, I want someone that will jump the defense's butts. Being soft is what broke the Chizik recruits to start with.

I agree, which is why Clark is second on my list.

Yea, Clark is definitely one hard nosed SOB. He runs shite as close to the military as he can.

Giving up 42 points and 550 yards is not owning anybody.

Compared to Baylor's averages last year it is

For real though, Baylor only had 3/16 drives go for over 50 yards , Never had consecutive scoring drives and were consistently in good field position. Baylor's average drive was about 30 yards

To put that in contrast to a seemingly similar say Auburn's 580 yard game against A&M where we scored 38 points . Auburn had 7/12 drives for 50+ yards and an average drive of 50 yards.

Just because the stats look similar doesn't mean Baylor's offense didn't sputter in the Fiesta against UCF

In what way? Not doubting you, just curious how you know he's like this.

I've talked to some UAB players. They said when he first got hired, it was a complete 180 from whatever his name was before. When they would leave meetings, they would all have to stand up together and file out. They said he was extremely strict when it came to discipline and order.

That's pretty much true. The players would do anything for him, but he was a hardass. Reminds me of a slightly toned down of Boom on the sideline.

Don't think this has been mentioned:

On Tate's Hot Board, he mentions how "insiders consider [Boom] an Auburn man despite his UGA roots"

Apparently he still keeps in touch with some people here.

Thanks for the insight. I feel like that is the kind of discipline the defense needs.
