Most Improved?

What do you guys think will be the most improved part of the team this year?
Runner-up for me is the WR group. Some is hope and some is I think Ike really knows how to coach the position.
But #1 I expect Special Teams to really improve. Outside of our specialist like Punter, Kicker, returners we were horrible. Multiple penalties a game and the like. I really expect all that to really be cleaned up and special teams to make a difference in some close games.

I’ll go with Dline. Just because I think Mason’s 3 man front, prevent bs caused our studs up front to not be able to shine all year like they did in the IB.

OL just because there were tough games where they couldn’t run block worth a shite. They might as well have been pushing concrete sleds those days.

Yes my hope is OL run blocking and WR play.
Just think we are gonna have a big jump in Special teams play that kind of go unseen and we look back and like wow that 15 yard punt return or that 32 yard kick off return really flipped the field or lead to a score. When last year our specialist played really good but seems we started every drive inside the 15 because of penalties and sloppy play. Blocked kicks and just overall bad play as the units.

Vision
Year two in a system - these guys have had a full year of calling things out for themself instead of staff saying you do this. If practice does indeed lead to perfection and watching video help you see better, then these guys should be getting razor sharp about now.

Football season excitement. More giddy than logically should be, but I can’t just not be excited. It happens every year. Our WR core looked left for
dead after Hudson left and now we might actually have a decent unit. We somehow JABA’d into hiring Ike an amazing WR coach as well. Plus I’m not the type to root for losses over an agenda or just completely not watch games- I waited since last season ended to watch Auburn football. The bitching and euphoria and Monday morning quarterbacking after watching heroes and duds is my natural habitat. Plus Harsin’s strong arse message to the recruits “just watch” is just confident. He isn’t selling to season tix holders; he’s selling to recruits that he wants to sign in February signaling follow through could be coming. I’m willing to eat some crow regarding Harsin as our coach.
I’m glad you are enjoying the thread. I did it in 2019 and I’ll probably do it going forward.

As an individual, I think TVarish Dawson. Talk about putting the ball in a playmaker's hands. Watch his hs highlights. There is one play a couple minutes in, he is in a wildcat and its an all out blitz coming, center panics and skies it over his head, he runs back facing backwards catches it on one hop and pivots right (he has already seen the heaviest part of the blitz was coming from left, while he was jumping to try and grab the errant snap), he then cuts the seam and runs it for 70 yards.
Tough to tell how good he is because the qbs underthrow him so much, on some plays he is windmilling to slow himself down he is so far out in front of the throw, and then right back to top gear. Also some nice yards after catch on some tough slants.

I credit Hillard, kid was buried on the depth chart, and I read where he was quite frustrated, thinking about the portal, Hillard shows up and next thing you know they are talking about starting him, trying him out in returns, etc.
His scout comparison was Javaris Davis, Id take that everyday and twice on Sunday.

Most reports indicate it’ll probably be WR or OL (for whatever camp reports/interviews are worth). Here’s a question though- Which of those two groups do we NEED to improve more? Easy answer is OL but our WR play was incredibly bad last year. If teams can continue to load the box and key on our run game then I’m not sure how much our OL improving will help- especially when you account for their objectively low ceiling in terms of athleticism. All that being said, the correct answer is still probably OL, but I do wonder what a breakout year for a few WRs would do for the run game and QBs.

I would be in the camp that says WR play needs to improve the most for us to be a good team if we are going OL vs WR based off last year.
To be a dominant offense and be able to close out games obviously it’s OL run blocking.
