you tell em smuphy72, we will get some good ones and calm the thread....a little.
You know he is right about NIL as well, its not the individual recruit, its all the recruits......and all the current players. They may not expect the same as a 5 star, but they darn sure will expect to renegotiate or hit the portal if you blow the ceiling off on one kid.
And those same boosters you are asking from money just paid 92 million for a facility and close to 50 mil in coach buyouts, NIL could not have come along at a worse time.

Saban was hired in January 2007. His 2008 class was ranked #1 and is the equivalent of Hugh's 2024 class.
And in 2009 the University of Utah beat the brakes off bama in the Sugar Bowl. We've got to stay calm and let this process play out.

It wasn’t Jackson State money. Barstool paid the kid because of their relationship with Deion. And paying a freshman cornerback a million dollars is incredibly stupid. Idc how good he is.
That $1M investment probably netted Jackson State $30M+ in sponsorships, advertising and free marketing. So I'd say it was money well spent.

Calm what people in the thread? I don’t really see anyone melting over the recruiting as of yet. Some just made some comments that we are behind in the game at the moment vs our top rivals. Understanding all of the nuances behind that.
I think some are making it more then what it is.

I went back and looked at some of our classes from when we did recruit at probably our highest level since rankings became such a big deal (I think was something like 2010-2015ish). One of those classes had 6 top 100 guys. The rest had 3 or less.
And we competed for the SEC with those guys. We’ve got one SEC title in the last 10 years. We haven’t been competitive often because we haven’t recruited at a high level bringing in a lot of top 100 guys each class.
Alabama and Georgia bring in double digit top 100 players yearly and they seem to be doing pretty well.

Very concerning. We will stay middle of the pack in the SEC, which is now even larger, with our recruiting. Freeze did save Harsin’s crap recruiting, but what he is doing right now is not really giving me good vibes. We need some big splash recruits to get things going. I know everyone will say, but it’s early. Ok. Just go look at what the strong recruiting programs are doing early. But Freeze just got here, gotta build relationships and all that. Ok. Top coaches get it done. Plain and simple. We will only be a championship program with recruiting.
Glad I’m not the only one not constantly pumping sunshine.

When this staff pulls in Crawford, Perry, Riddick over the next 3 weeks everyone will calm down.
That would be a heck of a start. I’ll believe we’re able to flip two five stars from UGA and Alabama when I see it.

And in 2009 Alabama started a Dynasty by beating a Florida team that’d won 2 of the previous 3 National Titles.

They did not.
And we certainly can throw $1mill at somebody

Which was my point…you said we have to have 6-7 guys per class but we didn’t have that and we competed…making your standard irrelevant.

Well no shite Sherlock. You become a recruiting juggernaut and you become pretty damn good at football. I don’t know what you think the argument is.

3 year process to rebuild. Yes it can be helped out by transfers possibly more quickly but middle of the pack talent has to be turned over.
I expect anywhere from 10-14 in recruiting for the '24 class.
Top 10 for '25 class.
Top 8 for '26 class.
Then we will be back in business with the talent to be able to win any game we play. Harsin crippled our relationships and was a horrible recruiter.
And if you want to buy players you better get more then 3000 donating members to OTV. Yes the big donors will buy some players but like many have said if you want to retain talent you have to pay them as well.

Very, very few are pumping sunshine here.
Some of y’all decided to fire up your posting fingers when Cam Coleman went to A&M and you haven’t realized we’ve been covering everything, including the misses and shortcomings at each and every turn, to the dismay of only a couple of posters.
If you want honest dialogue around recruiting then it starts by not being a drama queen about how your opinion fits in here.

Not sure why some of y’all took exception to that statement. I came back to 20 new posts and decided to skip them to post something that was actually recruiting news

Just a joke. Don’t actually give a shite

Sick kid so I’ve had to come back to the thread once I put him down for the night. Plus there’s no avoiding it since we’re circling back to mostly the same points now
We go through this every year around this time. It was obviously worse the last 2 cycles but even Gus would have us in a lean looking spot as August was coming around.

Well that’s awesome for Jackson State, since it was not their money.
