Let’s say Derek Mason doesn’t work out for Auburn…

…after year one.

Do we give him more time, or go after someone else?

Manny Diaz could possibly be out there. Connections in South Florida, former SEC DC, and also has an aggressive style of defense.

Just posing a question…

I don’t think his defenses tackle well.

I think he gets another year. We're changing to a very, very different scheme and you need time to both teach the scheme and recruit players for it.

I think we might have him longer then this year and next if his group doesn't improve. The pass defense has been horrible and no pressure on the QB. Not a good combo.

No thanks to Manny. If and when Mason leaves it'll be Schmedding at DC.

Because no one with a brain or money wants it to happen. I’m sure he doesn’t either.

90% likelihood Mason stays
10% chance he leaves
0% chance we get hot head as the replacement

Even if we do get him he still wouldn’t be safe. He would probably bolt for the James Madison job if given the opportunity.

Oh ok. Yeah I can see how people with a brain wouldn’t want a DC that puts out great defenses, and is also a great recruiter.

Does anyone think if Mason leaves we aren't just promoting Schmedding?

Like I said Muschamp will never be on the sidelines at AU again as a coach for Auburn. Way to many bridges burned. So like I said trust me on that. NEVER so look for a different DC to want to come in if Mason fails but it won't be him.

It'll be Schmedding and we will hire either 2 new DB coaches one a technical coach the other a hot shot recruiter.

Was it 2016 when he iced the Iron Bowl with back to back personal foul penalties? I thought he was a fiery man before then but that was too much for me. His defense and recruiting are great but we really need stability. A Kevin Steele type. Not a temporary bandaid… although we could use a recruiting shot in the arm.

I think Mason will enjoy his time at AU. If he is good enough to hang around I think it will be 3 years.

If we tank this year then maybe he gets the pink slip because we have looked really bad at times on D.
