Glad you’re ok but that sucks. Seal it, dehumidify it asap?
I lived in south Florida for a while in palm beach, luckily after 04-05 there was a stretch of peace. Remember the damage vividly though.

Son, his wife, and the baby are all good. Bottom floor is soaked.

Best bet might be Fort Benning or whatever they call it now.
Moody AFB is just outside Valdosta and Dr Gordon/Eisenhower is in Augusta so I would think both of them are dealing with the effects of Helene.

When he was in the military he was stationed at Robbins AFB. Her family is from that area so I assume he would look first in that area then possibly the Smyrna location

Glad everyone is ok. The damage sucks, but at least its fixable.
All the locals still call it Ft Gordon, but strangely enough I haven't heard much about Eisenhower at all. I'm guessing they got most of their stuff back up pretty quick.

Agree. Glad our FL crew are good.
I will always refer to Ft Bragg and Mackall by their proper name no matter the sign above the entrance.

Sorry to hear that 88. Let me know if I can help man. We are fine here. No damage other than a little pool cage stuff that I can fix myself and somehow my pressure gauge and bracket from my pool filter was in my neighbors flower bed two doors up. Somehow. Need to fix that today.
No power and no internet but got a little tiny cell signal outside standing beside my screen door that I can chat from.
Generators running all over the place at every house. House is staying cool at night. Not great, but we are so tired from cleaning that we crash anyway
Let me know if I can help you 88

LOL. Sorry, just got any kind of internet singnal for the fist time. A tiny little guy over by my screen door is all I have.
We have the steel shutters that bolt on to the house with inserts in the concrete. They fit well and were not hard to install. The bolts suck and are easy to strip the head out on so I plan on looking for some different hardware to replace them with. Once storm season is over this year, I will go around and paint over them so you cant see them again. They seem very sturdy and the stack up against the wall in the garage on a base when not in use.
Nice system actually. Clean and you can do them by yourself.

Steel shutters are very smart. Is this a Florida thing where all Lowes carrys them or did you special order them.

I think Florida has a new code that states if you don’t have storm windows, you have to have storm shutters for all new homes. It was part of the house when we bought it. Most of the newer homes I’m seeing that don’t have impact glass, have these. I actually think I would rather have these than the impact glass. Impact glass is less trouble, but things can still break it and then it’s expensive to repair. It would have to be a pretty big object going pretty fast to bend the shutters and break the glass behind it.

Oh damn. We'll that's smart. I guess insurance lobbied for that.

Yeah, gotta have storm glass or shutters. I think its been that way at least since 04-05

We got out and rode around today from our house to siesta key. Holy frick. Looks like a scene from the apocalypse.
Insane.
Insane.

We were camping in AL this week with lousy cell.
Glad you came out ok. My siblings did as well.
One friend's house caught fire in the middle of it all and fireman couldn't respond. Neighbor and pastor put it out. Unsure of extent of damage.
We have AL shutters and some "clear" ones for light. They slide into a track above the windows and doors and screw into another track below. We also got braces for our garage door. Our neighbor got one that met "wind mitigation" requirements - it has more bracing, no windows and the track is tied into the house with more/longer screws. Just a couple of options for you.
My issue with impact rated windows is that I think they can still flex in the opening potentially letting in water at some point.
Lots of new houses here use the fabric style protection over the windows.

Think you are correct. I went ahead and pulled the trigger for double pain hurricane impact windows when I went through my remodel. However, I do have an impact Fabric that goes over my front door. It was cheaper to get that than buy a front door assembly with the side glass etc.
We have power back. People across the street don't but we are on a different grid. Weird but theirs is above ground and ours is below.
Got the hole temporarily covered which is good. Now tomorrow tarp the roof where the shingles rolled up. We had over 120mph winds hit and it sounded like giants stomping on my roof.
Could have been worse. Saw a home today that had been split in two by a tree. Others who have it far worse than I did.
Spots - Appreciate the shout out. I have feelers out for good roofers and 3 fly by nighters stopped by over the past couple of days from Ft Meyers. My siding guy that I need for a quote has 3 feet of water in his house. So yeah...friend on AMI had 3 feet of muck in her house got it cleaned out and now has standing water in there again. Long cleanup season...
Appreciate the thoughts. This is the first one where our house was really damaged. Positive note. Kids & Grandkids made it through! Appreciate the thoughts from everyone....WDE

Unreal. We would go out and stand on the Lanai and it would be like the end of the world. Come in and close the sliding door and you could not hear shite. My wife went to bed when the backside eye was passing and it was about to tear our cage down.

We rode up to actually see the boat today. It is off 301 and Whitfield dr. Just south of Hwy 70. They finally got power to let us in. Boat is fine. Cover was slightly damaged but nothing else. We rode down to Siesta Key area then took Clark rd home. Man that place got destroyed. Some of those "cute" mobile hom parks look like you just need to bulldoze them over and start again. I could not imagine riding out that storm in a tin can
Hope you can get things back in shape soon. Going to take the weekend off and head back to Cortez Monday and get back to work. Stop by and see me sometime.

Glad you are all o.k.. Florida has been hit hard this year. I live in the panhandle and have been able to dodge them. Hopefully that is it for the year.

Yeah this one was the first one that sounded like Giants stomping on my roof. Airport measured about 122 MPH and when it shifted we could tell. Power was out.
Glad your boat was Fine! Which one of you bros left your grill cover our or a bag of trash? All ended up in our yard. Or bits of these crappy PVC fences? They were like missels hitting the house.
Neighbor had their pool cage roll up onto their roof.
First time AMI to longboat was open. Friend went down to check on one of his clients. St Armonds took a hit also.
If you guys need something and I can help let me know. We have been without power for a couple of weeks before so we know what it is like.
I will have to come over to Cortez to see ya. Hope you have power there.
