I get this but it’s needed from a PR perspective. While Gogue’s letter was spot on and perfect, the media isn’t going to cover it. AU can’t wait until after the holidays bc it needs to capitalize on the excitement of the announcement to put to rest all the bad publicity surrounding the coaching search. Plus, you get into bowl games next week. This is actually a great time because slow news cycle going into Christmas.
Also, many of the beat writers are likely in town or close anyway. And the ones who aren’t will be able to catch it over Zoom (assuming this is an option bc of pandemic)

Plus they knew it was by zoom so that's even more convenient. You can literally do zoom from your cell phone

Oh no, you have to pull up zoom on your phone for a bit on Christmas Eve and don’t even have to be good at your job to still get a paycheck. The horror.

Don't know how reliable it'll be, but I do believe they're gonna stream it on the AU Athletics official site.

What a wuss. I've been deployed and flown combat missions on Christmas Eve, Christmas, NYE. I had to wake up at some ridiculous hour & sit in a trailer that had a TV to watch Auburn beat VA Tech to finish the '04 season.

I personally believe AU chose to hold the presser today as punishment for the crappy beat writers for publishing a bunch of crap the last 9 days

Scheduling for 12/24 isn't just shafting the writers but all the AU AD staff that have to then unexpectedly work too.
