What an unbelievable weather pattern we’re seeing now and have seen over the last few weeks. That storm hitting North Texas over the weekend is the real deal.

Hoping ice doesn’t come to the Birmingham metro.

What’s everyone up to this weekend?

My boss had to remind me we were off on Tuesday

These past 12 months have been good for us in many ways but damn I’m ready to get back to life.

This weather isn’t helping anything. Looking forward to beers on the boat and and getting my lawn looking right again.

We've had an inch of ice on the ground since Wednesday, lost power Thursday morning. And it's looking like we won't thaw out for at least another week.

Have you seen the folks that are doing Yardi Gras "house floats"?

I had seen something about them on the OT, but then NBC had a feature on it yesterday. There are actually a few as far east as here in Atlanta - and one out near Athens.

Where dat?

We've been on the freeze line in this part of Blount County (AL) ever since sunset. You could hear precept all night and the deck thermometer has read a steady 29 since midnight. Good news is it looks like the rain is done, which is all our best hope, because we're the absolute last for power restoration. Last 2 major events you could see lights for 3 nights before getting it back.

Just one of the joys of living in the midst of whats normally cut down and recreated into your normal 21st century forest. The main road we turn off (1st of two turns) of started out as a stage coach line, a raised stretch through a swamp, and is now over hung with trees from both sides like you might see in a New England travel brochure. Its a pretty nice place if your not into modern conveniences and red lights.

I have been telling yall and telling yall for years but you always want the summer to end and there to be "cooler" weather

I hate winter. I mean despise it. I think working in it for 25 years has made me even hate it more.

I wouldnt care if it ever got below 70 deg again

nawh - other shoe for me

I like our 4 seasons even if the largest is summer. The daffodils have already sprouted in my yard. Which means the violets and trillium are due anytime now. Which will be followed by Jack-in-the-Pulpit's. And then the tree's bud out drawing nown the water table when coupled with lessening rain and the whitewater creeks disappear. Best boating and best time to be on the water around here is December to March. Then the road trips really begin. (correction: violets are now up everywhere!)

What are you... an old softy?

eta: Lost my Dad this week. Which is good thing. He made it a couple decades past any of the other men on his side and it'd been a long time since seeing him truly happy. So it's been sort of nice seeing everything regenerating and beginning anew. Hard man, world would be better if we were all a bit more like these old timers. Meaning he always gave more than he took (if any at all).

Sorry to hear about your father's passing. I'll raise a glass in honor of the ol' timer.

I'm digging the weather, because this weekend I'm tucked away in the N GA mountains, in front of the fire, or in the hot tub with the Mrs (pics on reddit).
We brought everything, so we don't have to leave at all. No kids + delicious food, beer, wine, bourbon + awesome house & hot tub + views obscured for fog + smoking hot wife = WINNING thread.

I like all 4 seasons. But in the last month of each season, I’m very ready for the next season. That’s kinda the beauty of it all

Sorry to hear about your dad man. That sucks. :(

I dont know that I am a softy. I still fish in the rain in the low 30's 8 hours at times. I do fine when Im out there. I just dont recover as well as I once did. I think I just love sunny hot weather so everything else sucks. The Georgia winters are necessarily cold, its just wet every single day which makes is worse...

I can dig pretty good. Id just rather not do that for what life i have left. Dry and the warm sun on my back sounds pretty good

Preach.

I tell people give me a temp in the 90s with 100% humidity over anything below 50

Thanks appreciate it- but it was good.

Softy was in jest; watched your sling shot video and you looked geared up for weather.

However around here the best steep creek season is dead of winter. We all drysuit up and the Northern baws including Canadian's come down to spend a week or two since it's not all frozen up (and you simply can). It's almost serene to be all wet, icicles everywhere, all the leaves gone so you can forever, and you've got it all to yourself. Or if someone it's never as many as when it's fair weather. Near solitude and not really far off the beaten path. Sometimes like the on Cahaba your almost a stones throw from Crazy-280 and it seems like lost in a state park.

and slacker130 thanks he certainly wasn't adverse to a little scotch.

Preach it. This is absolutely my least favorite time of the year. I hate all cold weather but Jan thru the end of Bradford Pear season can die in a fire as far as I'm concerned. And if you have one of those aforementioned demon trees with it's special fragrance and it's devils pollen polluting the air you can get 2nd degree burns in said fire
