If Hugh Freeze is so good why is he available in February as our panic button option? Are we just so smart as a program that we see something in him that nobody else sees.
10-3 at Ole Miss, is exceptional. And let's face it, beating a Saban-led, perennial national champion, two-years in a row, is pretty remarkable. History tells us, that when a program starts really being a threat to that school across the State, for some reason, the NCAA starts shining it's spotlight that way.

Not sure if you are joking but we literally hired Bruce Pearl while his show-cause was still in place

Ole Miss has had 6 coaches this century. 4 of them have posted 9 wins or better in a season.

Hugh Freeze had massive interest from both Tennessee and Auburn last season. The only reason why he's not leading an SEC school today is because of the NCAA/SEC situation holding him back. After his 3rd season at Liberty, the dogs appear to be off him - the SEC Has cleared him from being hired again.

Ole Miss was as competitive, if not more, during Freeze's tenure, than any other coach. Now, look at what he did with freaking Liberty! The guy can coach, and he can recruit. Give him the resources that we have, and expect a lot better than what we've had from our last two hires. But I guess we could hire a disastrously failed, former HC, and perennial coordinator, or just a perennial coordinator with zero HC experience.

I heard a story that last year the PTB were getting ready to make a move to bring in Freeze when ADAG jumped in and pulled the trigger on Harsin. Anyone heard anything like that?

that's an interesting article. thanks for sharing.
i'd be fine with anyone he listed except steele. grimes would be a bit of gamble but i'd rather take the gamble on him than steele. any of the other three - freeze, kiffgod, gundy - would be very good hires. not sure how realistic they are though.

Can we at least set a bench mark of success after 1 yr? Is it going to Bo’s golf Tourny, is it top 15, 10, or 5 recruiting class, how many games need to be won, how many calls from PTB have to be fielded a week, shoe shining, player surveys to make sure they are being treated fairly….I mean based on what is being said about Harsin, someone took liberty to create some random performance indicators and the next coach should demand to know what those are in year 1. I mean usually every coach on the world gets at least 2yrs

We gave Pearl like 3 losing seasons to get rolling. This program can be patient once they know they got the right guy.
Recruiting efforts should modestly improve even if performance doesn’t initially rebound. Auburn has put too much money into our football facilities for our recruiting events to fail. Overall trajectory should be up.

Interesting. Good coach. But, his recruiting classes at Okie St have been consistently between 30 and 40, most closer to 40. Could he improve that to top 10 at Auburn? If not, I don't know that it would be a good hire.

Yes because he literally couldn’t recruit for the first few months. No established basketball program would hire him until that show-cause was up. If we had waited, he probably gets hired elsewhere. We got him because we were willing to eat those first few months. We were one of the absolute worst P5 basketball programs in the country so we had nothing to lose.

David Cutcliffe and Lane Kiffin have both did/done just as well without having almost all of their wins vacated. Hugh Freeze did a good job. But is he gonna do a good job without committing multiple infractions? Recruiting against a much tougher SEC than he was in? And now having to deal with a frick ton of negative recruiting that other coaches will surely do to him? He hasn’t recruited well at Liberty (not saying they should be doing well, but he’s getting out recruited by lesser programs). He went 8-5 this year with a possible first round QB, including a loss to Louisiana Monroe.

I listened to locked on Auburn this morning. There was a lot of discussion about the Harsin situation. Which I won't comment on. But the normal monday guest the AuburnBanker dude that now has the MLB prospects show stated that 247 did a review about recruiting and first year recruiting rankings. They both agreed 18th was horrible for AU. but the research from 247 showed what your first recruiting class rank is generally where you will stay. They used many different coaches in the example that who ever the first year coach is they typically finish somewhere near where their first class is.

2021 class he got a pass. I don't know why people are brushing off the 2022 class. It is a disaster.
Posted on 2/7/22 at 11:23 am to AUCE05
Yes and from the "research" each class following for Harsin would have been a disaster.

HC: Dell McGee
OC: D. Craig
DC: Twill
Since all we apparently care about is our fricking recruiting classes.
