Everybody wants Pearl, but we will never pay our bball coach what it would take to get him.
We have invested a decent amount of money in the basketball programs over the past several years. We're paying Barbee $1.5 million to do jack shite. We might be able to afford Pearl.

We can afford him if we want him. We didn't pay $93 million or whatever for a new arena to just sit there.

Jacobs won't hire Pearl though so all of this talk about Pearl is for nothing

Yeah, you are right. Pearl was making $2 mill. a year at UT. I really thought it was more than that. If we can pay Barbee $1.5 mill. then we can certainly pay Pearl $2 mill.. (for some reason I thought Pearl made really close to $3 mill. a year at UT)

Hell, let's go get him. I would love to have him as our bball coach.

What the frick? Him recruiting kids that don't qualify is not bad luck. Him running kids off is not bad luck. Him not recruiting players that fit his "system"is not bad luck.It is him sucking at this million dollar job. GTFO Barbee.

This thread is funny.

Barbee's terrible, and he's gone.
Just hope JJ gets the next hire right.

Am I wrong that our team is vastly improved from last year? Am I wrong that Auburn basketball is not somewhere coaches want to be? Is Jay Jacobs going to allow a coach to get involved with AAU handlers like all the good programs are? Face it, Auburn is a football school and our view of the basketball program is skewed by the success in Jordan Hare.

We won the first two conference games last year and lost some close ones. We were still horrible. I don't see much different this year, other than having a PG that can actually hit some open shots.

These guys still can't close out close games. We aren't even getting off shots down the stretch. I'd take Lebo over what Barbee has done so far.

1-18 in our last 19 SEC games and Rob Chubb would still be by far our best low post player. I don't have anything against Barbee and I think he could be successful at a different program but he is not a good fit for our situation at Auburn. You don't hire a recruiter with strong Nike connections at an Under Armour school that doesn't want its head coach playing in the sewer that is AAU hoops. That problem has been compounded by a revolving door roster and has us in the drivers seat for our 2nd straight last place finish.

in all Likelihood we'll be missing out on the NIT's & NCAA's yet again unless we pull off a long winning streak during SEC Play

even Lebo got us one NIT appearance Barbee has had 0 Ncaa or NIT appearances since he's been here

if this is your definition of improvement more power to ya

I just think Barbee started with a lot of bad players to fit his system and now the team is just now full of guys that are going to buy in and do what he needs to exectute.

You're not thinking; you're hoping. I'm tired of waiting on next year. Bye Bye Barbee

this is supposedly the same system he had so much success with at UTEP he's had more than enough time to produce results he hasn't

therefore bye-bye Barbee

Whoa whoa whoa. No hostility here, I was just expressing my views, however wrong they might be.

Seems that this is the board consensus FIFY

I want to give Barbee a chance and believe he could be a solid coach I just don't think he will do it at Auburn. Not with what has already occurred here.

I say we hire Barkley. I want fireworks. Don't give a shite if we even win for a few years if we did that

And I'm all for that but keeping Barbee another year will likely Napalm Auburn Basketball. Changes have to be made

I'd take a terrible season if Barkley was a head coach. It would at least be good for a few laughs.

Barkley would bring relevance nationally to Auburn's program. Something we haven't had in a long long time

We could go 0-27 but still be on tv
