*Still young enough (he’s a man! He’s 55)
*Great recruiter, all things considered
*Has successfully run a P5 program who is on the outs because of SEC expansion
*innovative and different offense perhaps we can recruit to our advantage
*Red state guy in a Red state

Just food for thought, but I’m surprised he hasn’t gotten more banter

Strikes me better than Steele & Bill Clark.

I guess I'd be slightly happier the day after he was announced than the day after Harsin was announced, but he doesn't get me excited.

A man that's 55 and has a mullet...

Good thing to start another thread about one random name.

If only we had an existing thread on this topic.

I wouldn’t mind the hire at all. Not exactly a homerun but would
be more stable than Harsin from day 1

What ties to the southeast does he have? Any? I don't see any.

Okie State '90 - '95
Baylor '96
Maryland '97 - '00
Okie State '01 - now

We'd be hoping a westerner would be able to recruit at a high level in the SEC region. Look where that got us.

No thanks.

I must admit, when the breaking news came across about Harsin being hired I literally had to Google him because I had never heard of the man

He hired Derrick Mason for DC. I’m out

I'd rather have Rodney Garner and a strong support staff.

His name comes up every year for jobs and he always stays put at his school. Why leave that for a higher pressure job?

Me too. Then I had to spend a couple days convincing myself it was a decent hire. As soon as I did, Jang posts about the concerns he had, then I didn't believe it was anymore

Derrick Mason took a pay cut to coach for him. Posibarner [On] Off

With that said, I’m about where Randy is at at this point. If we cannot at least land a tier 2 coach we might as well just keep Harsin. Firing him and wasting the money on a retread is about as stupid as management can get. The scary part is only few fans want Freeze or Steele however those names constantly pop up when discussing the PTB. At least when Harsin sucks we are not wasting any more buyout money on top of the suck.

Except, define tier 2.

Freeze and Steele would both be hires that would feel like little effort or thought was put into. Rhett Lashlee would be too.

Would be just more of the same. At what point should we have kept Gus, saved $40 million, pumped $38.5 million into NIL, and spent $1.5 million on the best OL coach/recruiter money can buy?

Before I get attacked, I hated Gus mid season year 2

It’s subjective of course.

For mine with a later addition of Lebby to tier 2

Tier 1 Aranda, Kiffin, Matt Rhule

Tier 2 Deion, Lebby, Dan Quinn,

Tier 3: Freeze, Urban Meyer, Jason Garrett

Tier 4: BOB, Muschamp, Steele, Rhett Lashlee

Tier 5: Bill fricking Clark

If we spent $40 million to land on Bill Clark I will ransack the Athletic Department office and Yella Woods corporate office and customer service department

Harsin is the worst coach in the modern day era of Auburn football. If I had known Harsin was going to be this bad Gus could’ve just rode out his extension as well. Championship aspirations are long gone now and all we have done is wasted money.

Not sold on Rhule as tier one, but I like your Tier 1 & 2.

I said this when we fired gus, if we're not swinging for the fences, why are we in the batter's box?

3 years ago I wouldn't have believed 28 point underdog to our 2nd biggest rival as something that's possible
