When both were at Tulsa, I believe Hand called the running plays and Gus called the passing plays.

I heard the TV guys refer to Herb Hand as "Running game coordinator" the other day. I was surprised.

does this info affect the amount of crow we were supposed to be eating over Rhett? it feels like it does.

Gus has been masterfully throwing credit everyone's direction so that way everyone wins.

Auburn does bad? No one is quite sure who to blame
Auburn does good? Everyone is viewed as a contributor

As long as we're winning, you can shovel that crow down my throat. I will be the first to admit I'm wrong if this team continues to improve each week on the offensive side of the ball.

I haven't seen the whirlybird in a while. I'll give Hand the credit for that.

Every team in the country has multiple guys providing input both on O and D. To believe Gus was calling plays in the past without anyone offering input is silly. DC left, likely because he was talking and Gus never listened. The guy calling the plays never does it alone. They wear headsets for a reason.

With Hand up in the box he should be giving input on how the D is setting up. I would assume he is reading it and calling OL set up to counter and they go with plays that match. Which would be better than going with the same play you decided on no matter how they set up.

I think it was the 2013 IB that Gary Danielson pointed out that Malzahn stayed at the LOS and Lashlee would be downfield watching the safeties, and they would adjust playcalls accordingly.

That would actually make a lot of sense with how the offense relied so much on the deep ball to keep teams from stepping up to stop the run.

I feel better about this than when we had Hugh Nall and Ensminger calling plays together.

I don't think he's calling plays in the literal since. He does give give Lashlee advice and feedback from the booth though. Lashlee said on the 2nd play of the game vs. MSU that Hand called down and told him we got great push on that run play.

Hand is likely watching for how certain players react to each play in the tree of run-pass options at Lashlee's disposal. If the safety (or safeties) start crashing the line on every read option mesh, Hand likely passes that info down to Lashlee. Then Rhett can take advantage of those tendencies.
