I ain't too worried about it. Remember Harsin has two head-coaches on staff. Mason who was at Vandy and Bobo who spent his OC career at UGA. These guys know the SEC and what they're up against.

I am confident they'll get it turned around.

Harsin strikes me as a no nonsense guy. Remember what Drinkwitz said about Harsin when he coached under him. Said he could be a "real dickhead" if you didn't do shite how he wanted.

Remember, when a guy transfers out, it opens a spot for AU to pull in a guy from the portal.

I am totally OK with 2021 being an experimental "culture building" year. I don't expect 3-9 but I am not going to get my panties in a wad if we end up .500.

This.

If there’s any comparison to AU’s gridiron past to be made, its 1999. Sure, last year wasn’t nearly as awful as Bowden/Oliver, but it was also clear that the program wasn’t going to improve, and there was a power struggle going on behind the scenes. Tubs came in with an entirely new staff and a lot of players opted out/were processed. We struggled mightily with talent differentials against most of our opponents that season, but by the end of the year we showed we could compete (blowout win over UGa, close loss to eventual SECC Bama). The next year we won the West.

Not saying that will happen this time around, but it’s clearly the most analogous to any other time in our history.

ETA: realize this would probably fit in better in the 2021 Football thread

If we didn't make a change we were headed to possibly a winless SEC record. Glad we didn't wait to see what Gus looked like completely off the tracks. When we get recruits on campus things will change, a $90 million football complex under construction tends to help too.

Remember it's not just a new staff, but hopefully a new culture too. One where people are trusted and allowed to do their jobs without bullshite booster drama behind the scenes, and rich assholes that have never worn a football helmet after 6th grade are calling the shots. I hope this holds true and Harsin walks the walk he talks.

I think a new football complex looks good on paper, but for the most part that's for the players that are here already. Our facility isn't that outdated currently, but it seems like facilities are being updated yearly anyway.

Say what? It is for recruiting.

Yes, yes it is comparatively.

I'd say it's mostly for incoming players. The '22 class will be the first class to work in that facility their whole time at Auburn. And that's the current recruiting cycle

That being said, I think someone on 247 or elsewhere showed where new facilities don't provide the huge boost that fans believe it will. BUT, I agree here, Auburn's facility is a bit older and has gone renovation almost every other year. It pales in comparison to the top programs in the SEC - which is who we're competing with for recruits. The new facility will take away a significant item in the 'con' column for recruits when looking at Auburn. We'll still need everything else that's required to land top recruits (winning, development, draft picks, NFL success, popular coaches) but the facilities piece is something you just can't let kill you because it's often the easiest thing to control from a program building standpoint

Yep. The facility can be a big detractor. When you are within a reasonable level of who you are competing against, I don't think it is something that will move the needle significantly in your favor. If you are not within a reasonable level though, it can absolutely move the needle away from you, which is what ours has currently been doing.

Auburn’s running back room just got a bit bigger.

Per Jeffrey Lee of AuburnSports.com, former Central Michigan running back Jordon Ingram is expected to sign with the Tigers and enroll for the summer semester.

Ingram, a former three-star recruit from St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile, signed with the Chippewas in 2020 but did not appear in a game last season. He will come to Auburn as a redshirt freshman and add depth to a group that includes Tank Bigsby, Shaun Shivers and Devan Barrett along with incoming freshman Jarquez Hunter.

As senior at St. Paul’s in 2019, Ingram rushed for 1,394 yards and 18 touchdowns while catching 15 passes for 195 yards and a score.
