What is delusional is to think that Sean White can lead us to the promise land. He has played better but he is not a playmaker at the position where our type of offense needs that the most.

Auburn just doesn't have the talent to compete. That's the bottom line. Sure, we have some talent on the first string, but once we get 2 deep or lower, we have walk-on talent. Bammer and LSU (especially bammer) have 4 and 5 stars on the scout team.

I guess the whole Cam situation scared us and made our bagman go into hiding, but he needs to come back. Bammer cheats out in the open; they do it flagrantly and no one cares or does anything about it. All of their players are driving tricked out cars, have new suits, plenty of jewelry, their mommas get new houses (Rent Richardson), their uncles and aunts get new jobs. As TJ Yeldon said after he flipped away from AU to bammer "They are taking care of my family." This implies AU wasn't willing to offer enough. We need to get back in the game and start ponying up to "take care" of these recruits and their families.

Until we make the commitment to go "all-in" in the recruiting game (and it is a nasty game), we're going to be 7-6ish no matter if we had Bill Belichick coaching.

Auburn football will be wandering in the desert until Gus decides to adapt and inovate again. SW is our quarterback and it doesn't seem like that is going to change anytime soon. He is a playmaker and the "our type" of offense mentality is bullshite.

ETA: "Our type" of offense, 4-5 plays and give it to me on the hut-hut not the hut.

Obviously you didn't go to Auburn. I knew better than to make a sentence like this in high school --

That is the job of the $4 million coach to fix.

A running qb is not going to fix the problem of not being able to attack the middle of the field with the pass because we lack TE and hot routes.

Uh wut???? He isn't a playmaker with his feet but he has sure been a playmaker with his arm. Repeatedly standing in there & taking hits while delivering dimes. If Louis catches the damn ball against Arkansas we win & he passes for 300+ yds. He was banged up against Ole Miss yet went out there & moved the ball against one of the best defenses in the league.

He hasn't been perfect for sure. He is also only a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN who wasn't expected to play at all this season & has come in & made us competitive. It's more delusional to think that our offense can't get better under him

Just stating facts. If you think AU has the talent of the top-tier programs in the league, well you can keep on thinking that.

It may be a melt, but he's right about the lack of talent. The problem's Auburn has had since Tubby left are masked by two magical seasons where a JUCO QB took the SEC by storm and masked a lot of our problems. Yes, our recruiting rankings have been high, but there has been a ton of attrition and either a lack of development or busts for a lot of the highly ranked guys. Until last year, it also seems like our ranking was inflated by offensive signees and our defensive recruiting was much weaker.

The program is a mess at the moment and barring hitting the jackpot with a JUCO QB and DL, it's going to take a few years to get us back to where we believe AU should be. That's assuming Gus makes it past 2016, which is sure as hell not a guarantee.

How is it a mess? We have lost 3 of our 4 games by freaking EIGHT points. We could be sitting here at 7-1 talking about how we would have beaten LSU with Sean White (I don't think we would have but you know some AU fans would be saying that). I understand being frustrated with losing. I am freaking pissed because this team is good enough to compete for a title but they haven't. But I am so tired of the OH MY GOD WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE attitude from a team that has competed very well last few weeks & has improved steadily each week.

Now this is something I very much agree with. I think the complaints about the balance in the talent we have brought in is very valid. We have landed an elite player there each season but have not found done a great job of bringing in young talent throughout the defensive class. I think that is changing seeing already the impact of some of the young guys brought in last season. I have high hopes we finish strong & have more young impact guys in 2016

I don't get this. Sean White has been fantastic so far, and he's only going to get better. If Gus would stop fricking around by putting Johnson in at QB, White would look even better.

So then it's not about the bagman, it's about player development. That's something we can't pinpoint at all. It was a problem under Chizik. It's a problem under Malzahn. The players were weak with Yox and are weak with Russell.

The defense has sucked with Ted Roof, Brian Van Gorder, Ellis Johnson, and now Will Muschamp. These are all quality names when it comes to defenses, and all of them have had tremendous success away from Auburn football.

There is a problem we do not see on the football field but is obviously plaguing the program. This problem developed after 2008 when Tuberville left.

Perhaps this is a common complaint, but I think it can still be said: Jay Jacobs is the only constant during this period.

2008 started the time when Jay Jacobs seemed to really make the decisions about Auburn football. Up until then, it was a David Housel project.

Ever since then, we've been built on flash (and had some big ones in 2010 and 2013) but have performed as dry toast (2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, and now 2015).

Because people think a dual threat QB will fix everything despite the fact we had Marshall last year and still weren't very good.

I think we beat UGA FWIW. If Carl has a big day UGA may use all their schollied QBs that day.

We don need a dual QB. We need an OL that blocks well, an accurate QB (which we have), coaches that believe in said QB (TBD), & WRs that can catch the damn ball.

I started to do a response thread... 2.66 years in...

SEC Only Third Year Coaches, all three programs were dumpster fires when the coaches took over.

Gus: 13-9 (8-1, 4-4, 1-4), SEC Championship....
Butch: 6-14 (2-6,2-6, 2-2)
Bret: 4-16 (0-8, 2-6, 2-2)

This year sucks, but Gus has to get credit for 2013... he took a broken team (down 42-0 to Bama in 2012, etc.) and made them champions.
