Imagine Brohm as HC holding on to Durkin as DC.

Longshot for Durkin to stay on, but just imagine. Oh boy.

I assume that is at Purdue and Louisville combined? That’s certainly very good. The others likely have at least 1 (what was Miami ranked when SMU beat them a few weeks ago?), but I doubt the others have 5 wins against top 5 teams combined.

Of course, the fact he’s coached 10 games against top 5 teams also points to him being one of the older candidates on the list. But, hell, Brohm is still younger than me (I was going to laugh, but I think I’ll cry).

I dont know about Lashleee because I dont consider him possibly leaving.

but only Key (1W,2L) and Franklin (1W, 15L) have top five wins.

I was wrong about Brohm though. He is 4-4 in top 5. 5-8 in top ten.

Right now I think Sumralls youth and personality has him #1 for me.

BUT for the first time in quite a while I think that we would be in a good position with pretty much every name that’s been mentioned. I don’t want him at all but even a Jimbo could be a successful figurehead given he doesn’t run his offense and hires a competent OC.

I think I’m going with

1. Sumrall
2. Brohm/Franklin/Golesh
3. Durkin/Drink/Dilly
4. Kelly

Count me in the “Anyone but Brohm” faction. Just look at his Power 4 resume:

2017 Purdue: 7-6
2018 Purdue: 6-7
2019 Purdue: 4-8
2020 Purdue: 2-4 (COVID)
2021 Purdue: 9-4
2022 Purdue: 8-5

First off, it took him until Season 5 to finally get above .500. Auburn doesn’t have that kind of patience… he’d be run out of town after 2 seasons.

Secondly, in his one good season at Purdue (year 5), he won 9 games but seven of those wins came against teams with 6 losses or more.

If you keep going…

2023 Louisville: 10-4

His only 10-win season. While he was 2-1 against the final AP top 25, he lost three games to unranked teams including 3-9 Pitt and 7-6 Kentucky.

2024 Louisville: 9-4

They were 1-3 against final top 25 teams but also had a loss to 3-9 Stanford.

2024 Louisville: 7-1

1-1 against the current top 25, but otherwise have played no one decent.

I think he’s a decent coach… but if a guy has coached at the power 5 level for 9 seasons and never produced a team that sniffed the Top 10 or even the Top 15, I think it’s a hard pass.

Also, did we watch the 2018 Music City Bowl. That was not even a good Auburn team and we absolutely obliterated them.

Louisville was ranked 15 in the final CFP poll in 2023 and are currently fly #15 as well.

Those three losses were by 7 points to 2 playoff teams and miami. He just needs that blue chip bump. It's about as obvious and undeniable as it gets with him. Who gives af about what he did at Purdue.

I was medium on him when Jang was pumping him last go round but he did exactly what he needed to do and has made Louisville competitive again after Satterfield dragged them down to .500. He is far and away the best candidate in a year with honestly several solid guys.

His teams are good on both sides of the ball. That's a really good sign.

If you are impressed by that, go right ahead. Count me out though.

Yeah his overall record isn’t great but there are plenty of coaches that have been successful whose record weren’t stellar when they were hired.

And Brohm’s record and rankings at least shows an upward trajectory. I’m not sold on him but also not 100% opposed to the idea. I definitely prefer him over Sumrall though.

To have a final ranking at either of those schools is impressive. Now, go look up Saban’s rankings while at Michigan state:

quote:

Nick Saban's coaching record at Michigan State was 34–24–1 over five seasons (1995–1999). He led the team to four bowl appearances but went 0–3 in those games. His final season, 1999, saw the team finish with a 9–2 record, which helped the program achieve its highest ranking under Saban. Overall Record: 34–24–1 Conference Record: 23–16–1 in the Big Ten Bowl Games: 0–3 Best Season: 1999, with a 10–2 record (after a 9–2 regular season), finishing the season ranked #7 in the AP Po

I like what I’ve read and seen of Sumrall. IF he’s the right guy and we hire him, he could be here 25 years.

IF we are wrong, he will be fired like anyone else.

It’s the opposite. The agents will leak to journalists to try to get their client payed more.
