I was thinking about this over the weekend, and then seeing a post on SECR that Bama is actually doing it with USF, would it be worth it for AU to look into scheduling 2 for 1 games with certain teams?

One, it might open up a little more variety in opponents for OOC home games, as well as open up some road game opportunities for fans to go to places they normally wouldn't.

I'm thinking about teams like Colorado State, Wyoming, Marshall, SDSU, etc.

I'd rather just keep doing home and homes with better teams.

I am all for this too, but after a while the endless rotation of Sunbelt teams starts to get a bit old.

I know in the past Wyoming has come to JHS, as has SJSU and a couple of other Mountain West type teams.

My thought would be that in a year where we host a P5 OOC like Penn State, maybe schedule a Labor Day weekend season opener at CSU so fans could go to Ft. Collins, make a trip out of it, and then the next year and maybe then 2 years after that, CSU comes to JHS for the first time ever.

I also think that reducing the real cupcake games (Alabama State/Georgia State) down to maybe just homecoming is going to become necessary when we see the playoffs go to 12 teams.

I’m guessing we will go to a 9-game conference schedule once the interlopers are added, so I would hope when that happens we adopt this strategery:

Odd-numbered years (SEC 5 Home inc IB/4 Away inc DSOR)
1 G5 opponent as Home opener
1 G5/FCS as HC
1 P5 opponent Away

Even-numbered years (SEC 4 Home inc DSOR/5 Away inc IB)
1 G5 opponent as Home opener
1 G5/FCS as HC
1 P5 opponent Home

This would guarantee 7 home games per season, comprising of at least 5 P5 teams and including one of our traditional rivals every year.

Going to have to see how realignment plays out.

I’m guessing the alliance conferences are going to stop scheduling us. The counter to that might be 10 conference games since that would provide more high quality games and fixes the problem of not playing some cross division games for a decade.

If you go for the 2 for 1 games you need to ensure it is an area you want to recruit. We won't be recruiting a lot out of Wyoming or Montana. But someone like Temple or FIU or somewhere in TX would work as recruits are there...

2 for 1 work only when they are in a major city (Kickoff Classic) type game.

You are going to fly to Denver, catch a Frontier airlines puddle jumper to Cheyenne or Laramie and go to a half empty football stadium to watch a ball game?

I’ve been seven times because I met the opposing team and trucked their game equipment over the hill because the airport in Laramie could not handle a passenger jet. 50 yard line seats.

The only redeeming experience, Bob Hope was doing their Homecoming, walked into the truck and told me what a great game I just played.

Told him, “This is an Auburn shirt. Pat Sullivan and Terry Beasley said hello.”

Didn't that team get as high as #2 that season? I think it was one of those underrated teams that was ready to break out.

And then IIRC the Big East just kept eating each other.
