I don't know. The only thing it may have done is remind Gus that trying to kill the clock starting in the 2nd qtr is a bad plan, which frankly is a larger indictment.

That loss was unforgivable. I understand the UGA loss. We were beat up from #1 back to back and KJ was hurt.

The LSU loss simply should not have happened and was entirely gus' fault..and is why bama got in.

We had a good season, 10 wins and beat UGA and Bama. Bama will win another nattie and UGA is primed for a long run.

Our schedule does us no favors playing both of them in 3 weeks just before the SECCG

Maybe our new AD will prioritize getting the DSOR moved up

Agree and let's be honest, fans aren't upset about losing to UCF as much as seeing Bama UGA in the playoffs and Natty. Nothing Auburn could do about Bama making it in. Nothing Auburn could do about having to play UGA a second time even after throwing them a beatdown in the regular season. Losses are losses but objectively, this program has improved each year since 2015.

This is objectively false.

What's the point of the championship game again? If a conference can determine a champion without a game and a team can backfire their way into a NC twice, then why have one?

Explain how this is relevant to this season. The SEC champion is in the national championship game.

So is a team that backed their way in. I feel like playoff should be expanded and do away with conference championship games

With no conference championship, Auburn wins the conference and is #2 in the playoff.

The larger point is that talking heads want the conference championship to matter in the rankings, but the committee has basically said it doesn't matter--based on the last two years. Alabama avoids an extra game and rests. Auburn plays a game, gets embarrassed and then has to play UCF. So, why have the extra game, when: 1) a conference can decide who the champion is and 2) the committee isn't exactly rewarding all champions?

It does matter. UGA won their way in.

The only reason tOSU didn't get in this year is they lost by 30 frickin points to some iowa team. We didn't get in because we lost to LSU.

Last year you couldve had a point when tOSU lost their championship game and still got in, but this year teams who won either got in or were passed over because their regular season was trash.

UGA won their way in, but this is where we bring in the subjectiveness of college football. Bama didn't win their way in this year. OSU didn't win their way in last year. Neither were conference champions, yet still got a chance to play for the NC.

If you don't need a conference championship to play for a NC then why have one and risk losing a game that hurts your players' health and playoff chances?

Also, Ohio State didn't play in the BIG10 championship last year.

The game itself is rather worthless now I guess. LSU won the SECCG in 2011 and lost to Bama in ncg, so who really was the best team in the SEC? And now UGA wins it and Bama more than likely will beat them in a ncg, same question.

Big12 didn't have a CCG and that was the justification for leaving their champion out once.

It's really not that complicated. UGA deserved to be in. Clemson deserved to be in. OU deserved to be in. Who desderved the last spot?

tOSU was the champ of the next best conference, but lost by 30 to an unranked team. Out.

Next up? Auburn beat #1 twice in a 3 week span. Two losses excluding CCG; Clemson and the team that lost to Troy. If we put Auburn in, they would potentially be rematching clemson a 2nd time or UGA third time. Any other options?

The team with 1 loss that lost @ a top 10 team's house with a notorious home-field advantage during a rivalry game with multiple injuries. Playoff rematches are minimized.

I think the playoff got it right this year.

I echo your lamentations but doing anything else makes the regular season almost worthless.
