re: What do you love about the SEC?

Went to AU but also went to Oregon State for a second degree and have traveled and seen a lot of other D1 campuses inbetween. I live for spectacle. In the south, particularly in the state of Alabama, there aren't a lot of spectacles that make you sit back and just go "holy sh*t" compared to the rest of the country. But college football down there makes everyone that sees it for the first time sit back and go, "holy sh*t."
Agree and let's be honest, fans aren't upset about losing to UCF as much as seeing Bama UGA in the playoffs and Natty. Nothing Auburn could do about Bama making it in. Nothing Auburn could do about having to play UGA a second time even after throwing them a beatdown in the regular season. Losses are losses but objectively, this program has improved each year since 2015.

Merry Christmas and WDE. Don't forget to check your shitters.

We had no senior class when Kirby got here.
Yeah. We had studs as juniors and sophomores. And Kirby held together a good freshman class.
But literally, no senior leadership (the best senior was a grad transfer from Alabama).
The difference between 2017 and 2016 is senior leadership. And Kirby had to convince 4 guys to return to the senior class instead of the draft.
Kirby had to earn that freshman class in '16.
And he had to earn this senior class in '17.
Kirby deserves a lot more credit than you are giving him.
Bruh. AU went 3-9 before Gus got there....

Kirby looks great right now but he also inherited a waaayyyyy better situation than he would have at Auburn (or just about anywhere else). No regrets, worked out for everyone IMO.

Good work.
LOL just watch between now and then when they pick up Bob Stoops or Bill Belichick and become a juggernaut.

I for one look forward to Baker commiting war crimes against that defense.
Don't care

Was there in Person and it hurts like hell. Still proud of this team. Still proud of this staff that didn't have to crawl on all fours to daddy Saban and BEG for help beating the other team. War fricking Eagle.

Because he could have been the coach who for the first time ever let Auburn go 0-8 in 4 years against Bama and UGA.
THIS. Plus just generally not getting over the hump, not developing talent, and making 2013 seem more and more like a giant fluke the further we got away from it. I think most Auburn fans accept that they're not going to be a Nick Saban Alabama because NO ONE will have that level of success for decades. But he had to prove that he could compete with top 10ish level teams.
The goal I had before the season was for us to head into the Iron Bowl with the West on the line and he's done that. Somehow. Still some football left to play, but he's proving a lot of us wrong and I think most of us are happy about that. Like I've said before, I think fans have been especially melty about him because we WANT him to be THE guy for Auburn.

Will happily concede. Gus proved me wrong tonight.

Some of his comments and his body language last night makes it seem like he knows he's one loss away from unemployment. Maybe holding his feet to the fire like this is what he needs to get his arse in gear. I think we all agree that the talent is there and that at least old versions of Gus could make a run with this team. All that being said, my opinion of him still hasn't really changed since the Clemson loss. Hope he proves me wrong, but I'm still not getting excited about this team until they at least knock off A&M and UGA.

Congrats!
Would absolutely take him. Multiple championships. Ran an NFL factory. All time winningest coach at a top tier program. I think it's insane that people here would rather take the HUGE gamble AND pay out the arse for the likes of Brohm, Fleck, etc.

Eh, I can appreciate where you're coming from. I think a lot of fans are mad because we really really really wanted Gus to work out. But the way in which he hasn't worked out and the way he wen't from the 2013 coach that seemed to just have massive play calling balls to "run 17 straight on first down to protect the 9 point lead at the half" is so strange and confusing that it almost amounts to betrayal and I think a lot of us are enraged because we can't figure out WHY or HOW that change in him happened.
That downward trend since 2013 has been going on for so long now, and given the resources he had coming into this season, the fact that it's continuing even into the middle of 2017 is what has caused all of us to give up and write him off.

Surprised Butch Davis' name hasn't come up.
Established HC with multiple championships.
Track record of developing elite NFL LEVEL players
Could be bought for next to nothing.
Not a lot of competition for his services
IMO only out of a job for so long because of the UNC academic scandal which was recently declared null and void by the NCAA.

Same boat. I'm in the brewing industry so at least I can literally go drown in that for a while. Always wanted to try fishing. At least college football as a whole is still crazy fun to watch, just gotta find another team/storyline to follow and kind of cheer for. I like OK State a lot this year.
re: What kind of head coach could Auburn get right now?

Who do you want gone more? Jacobs or Gus. I can't fathom a brand new prez trying to replace both of those positions. My opinion? Strap in for a two year ride. SEC is going to be a coaching blood bath at the end of the season. Let that shite sort itself out, suck it up next year, and (hopefully) have a new AD hire a new HC without a lot of other P5
Competition around. I don't think we'll even have another choice, frankly. Just my $.02.
