I know this is basic, however it seemed that we are doing something that allows the defense to know when we are running or play action! Didn't seem to matter on down or yardage, they knew the play? Is it how OL sets up, our signs from sideline? Even when we tried to throw on first down, they seemed to all-out for the pass rush!

Yes. It's part of Gus' secret plan to get fired and get his giant buyout so he doesn't have to "work" anymore.

I remember last year when one of the tv announcers knew that we were running a pass or run play which was given away by how far the RB was away from the QB but I also remember this year when our offense was clicking for two quarters against LSU, Gary Danielson noted that LSU had no idea of knowing what we were throwing at them.

To sum it up - who knows.

Well with RPOs our offense doesn't even know if we are throwing are passing. But not all plays are RPOs and Gus did mention something about, "They knew we were passing the ball".

It doesn't matter. Everyone knew we were running ZR in 2013. They just couldn't stop it.

That's a long time to wait for the first post.

There were times watching the USM game back, where it sure seemed to be the case. The USM D pushed to the side the play was running. Same for LSU and Ark.

Probably found a play book on EBay

We only run 4 plays. Can't be that hard to figure them out.

Seemed to anticipate snap count many times.

Like seriously, how hard could it be to figure out. We don't seem to run misdirection anymore. The QB is no more of a threat to run than any other generic QB out there. Because our line is a steaming pile, the downfield passing game is non existent (to be honest even when we have had good lines it has not been that good either).

This line of thinking is completely over played in fandom.

Any decent college football player with adequate film preparation can tell you 3 or 4 likely plays based on down, distance and area of the field before they see the offense line up. Once in formation a player can normally chop that down to 2 or 3 plays. Once the ball is snapped if they read their keys correctly for the D that has been called they usually know what play is coming.

This is why coaches talk about execution way more than play calling...it is also why fans who didn't play at that level often talk about play calling more than execution.

It's a nice thought to suggest a coach break their tendencies more, but tendencies are what they are for a reason...1) it fits the philosophy 2) they are a result of their strengths 3) sometimes you have to take what a great DC gives you, etc...

Exactly. No if they are stealing signs and know when and where a run is going; then we have a problem.

Yes. We don’t have enough formations and we never have passes out of running formations.
