Hopefully we don't get a bunch of no name coaches

Who determines that?

When Saban signed his first $4m/yr deal I lost my mind that no coach at any level was worth it. 10 years later for any Big program that is way under paid
I'm talking about not hiring whoever they get at each position and then split the 7 million between them. Only pay them what they are worth and put the rest somewhere else. Don't just give a guy more money because there is extra staff money available.

I’m happy for those DL. It’s still Liberty vs Liberty peers though.
You have been wrong so much, at this point, you should adopt the George Costanza model and do the opposite of what you think.

The DL hire is underwhelming.

Kinda weird to hire a DL coach before the coordinator.

I think Garrett will be a good hire. Liberty’s defensive line was statistically among the best in the country. He played at Ole Miss and has pro coaching experience.

Agreed, but I gotta think Freeze absolutely has confidence in the guy. I won't second guess that.

JGT says three DC names to watch are Barry Odom, TRob, and Kiffin.

Odom may be the favorite.

NFL experience.
Extensive experience in Nashville.
Experience in Mississippi.
SEC player.

Don't really care to try to predict on what he did at Liberty. His success will depend on his recruiting (see above).

LOL if people would have critiqued Pat Dye's first staff - just high school coaches, ex teammates, and players he coached just 8 years earlier (recruiters!). Some of which are among the best Auburn coaches ever.

Hope they pay him a lot of money just because Auburn can.

Does that mean Freeze already knows who his DC is?

His Dline at Liberty produced. Yes, Liberty level guys, but they were playing against guys on or above that level. He can teach Auburn level guys to be great vs Auburn level talent. For position coaches I don't think that argument works

I'm assuming you mean Chris Kiffin?

DL coach from Liberty was an assistant to Kiffin right?

Would you take stock advice from Google too? Marital advice?

What do you know about the guy that Google didn’t tell you?

I can see this, too:

2010................................ Southaven High School, assistant coach
2011-17 ........................... Ensworth High School, associate director of admissions/assistant track ........................................... and field coach/assistant defensive football coach/fitness department chair 2018................................ Ensworth High School, head coach
2019................................ Vanderbilt University, defensive quality control coach
2020-.............................. Cleveland Browns, assistant defensive line coach

It's really all about if they teach good technique. If so their players will play well at any level.

Hopefully our DC style and personality will mess with the position coaches hired before him.

Personally, I think so. Worth mentioning that the DL guy hasn’t been announced so I’m sure there’s a lot of coordination going on

The whole picking a DC first thing is a weird requirement that only applies to new staffs. It’s not like when you replace a DC you fire everyone and the incoming DC gets to pick who he works with

Gotta imagine Freeze will do what he wants with the offense staff

No, it means Freeze values Garrett as a keeper.
