I don't like them because the person I want never gets hired or even looked at. I hate the rumors when you have a coach that their agent is floating their name around to get a bigger deal.

It is all like politics...kind of dirty...

It does give people something to talk about but then we also get the alts to way in and try to stir up trouble.

You then have the ill informed people who clamor for some coach...they get picked & then they complain about him. Well go do the research on the coach & you would have seen that coming...

Tubs and his duck hunting trips to Arkansas...What a time to be alive. I wish this place would have been as popular back then.

I was all ITAT then. I didn't even know this place existed.

So how does all this end, not just at Auburn?

- Kiffin would appear to be the biggest piece on the board. Seems likely, he will move to either LSU or Florida.

- If Kiffin goes to LSU, Drink goes to either Florida or Auburn and Sumrall to the odd man out of that pairing or Ole Miss. If Drink goes to Florida and Sumrall to Ole Miss, maybe Auburn promotes DJ, or takes Clark Lea or Golesh?

- If Kiffin went to Florida, is Sumrall or Drink a fit at LSU?

- Would Ole Miss be a big enough step up for Drink to leave Mizzou? In terms of money, facilities, tradition, talent base, it seems like both Auburn and Florida are better jobs than Mizzou. Ole Miss is very good right now (and good for them!), but a lot of that is to Kiffin's credit...now their fan base is going to have big expectations. If Drink cannot have Auburn, Florida, or LSU, would it make more sense for him to bide his time at Mizzou?

(Arkie is a worse job than all of the above. None of the above are even going to talk to them except possibly to use as leverage against current or prospective employers.)

Not advocating for any of the above; just speculating how the dominoes might fall.

Arky lost a major recruiting areas of TX when UT came into the SEC & SMU money now that there is NIL.

It is a big school but needs recruiting grounds. Hard to get to, limited talent in the state, they do have big money but again, if my family can make it to a game pretty easily vice being expensive...well recruits are going to weigh that & SMU, UT & TA&M have just as much money or more

Maybe I'm underestimating Lane's ambitions, but OM will pay him plenty.

They are over the moon to be in the playoffs discussion, whereas UF and LSU would be pressing harder for an NC.

Easy expectations (for now... he'll eventually be a victim of his own success like Mark Richt) and booster/fan adulation is a tough deal to beat.

Coaching searches are usually quite exciting because it means we just canned a terrible coach and optimism, wonder, and curiosity abound.

Until the coaching search concludes. Then there is bargaining and hope.

last time out there was rage, then despair, followed by feigned apathy

at least on my part

Yes, that also happens as well sometimes as I had very negative feelings towards our most recently departed coach when he was hired.

I enjoy a coaching search. That's especially the case in recent years, because Auburn has otherwise become such a slog.

Best evaluation yet.

And I lived across the hall from one of Shug’s best recruiters and lead that selected Dye. When I was home during Auburn breaks.

They tell you nothing.
