But, this is one of those things where it could take years, especially given the scope of the inquiry --- it seems like Adidas might be the big fish here?

Yeah that's a good thought. It is a lot of time, money, and effort by the FBI. An assistant coach at a crappy basketball program is hardly worth that much effort

All of this stuff coming out makes Wiley's decision to come out a year early look sketchy. I can remember him showing up at Auburn in January was a surprise. It looks like a business decision now considering the payments to his parents and Person.

It is a damn shame that this kid's career and Auburn's program is in jeopardy over Person needing $60k. Does Person have a gambling problem like Barkley? I imagine he should have banked a few million during his NBA career and probably makes at least $100k a year at Auburn...

I thought it was kind of known that college basketball was shady as hell

It was but it was near impossible for NCAA to track. The players who get paid big are gone in 1-2 years and the money comes from/filtered through apparel companies to AAU teams

No one from AU/Boosters directly pays players and Addidas/Nike/UA + AAU people aren't going to say sh*t to the NCAA

was more hands off because of all the tourney money they make

NCAA probably recognized it as a systemic issue so why reduce revenues to punish the unfortunate ones who got caught

If you read the timeline of events, it is pretty clear this has nothing to do with Wiley enrolling early. That was in the works well before Person ever met or heard of the cooperating witness.

It is acknowledged in the complaint that Wiley was enrolling early before they had any meeting / payment agreement

10-4.

What are the odds of Wiley or the other "unnamed player" being eligible this season?

I read where Person had told these athletes and their parents that this he was a client of this "financial advisor".

He wasn't.

And he also told them that Charles Barkley was a client of this "financial advisor".

He isn't.

I wonder how ol' Charles is gonna feel about his buddy Chuck throwing around his name like that?

Yeah, our basketball deal is still with Under Armour, correct?

And all the stuff that is directly recruiting related involves the Adidas teams?

Just looked at it again and the Player 1 meeting with Person and the agent happened in NY the week before Wiley joined the team. Wiley didn't go on that trip and is not likely P1 in the allegations. He may or may not be P2.

I think it is relatively safe to assume 2 of Wiley, Heron and Purifoy are involved.

Interesting side note....Chuck Person and Austin Wiley's father Aubrey are cousins.

Wiley's dad is a college coach, at Lawson State. Both played for Auburn...you would think they would know how illegal all this is and how this could affect Austin's future.

Something doesn't fit with Wiley being involved in this.

The FBI report doesn't mention Wiley's dad. Just his mom and stepdad. Could be that the Dad was kept in the dark on purpose.

after closer reading I don't think it's referring to Wiley's mom and stepdad.
I think that part is talking about a different player.

It's pretty well agreed upon that the player with the stepfather is Herron.

Anyone here think Pearl was aware of the situation? He might should lose his job regardless.

This story may have started with us but it is going to have shockwaves everywhere in college basketball.
