Chiz is a good person and his wife was very involved with charities when he was coach. I assume they still are. It is tough on the kids who had no choice. Wives know what they signed up for.

I have neve understood letting it get so personal. I can see criticizing a coach for decision making but taking it to the personal levels is amazing to me. I have also never understood why making more money, deserves greater criticism.

The coaching decisions are made because the coach is trying to win, even at times when those decisions are wrong.

Economics, as the salaries get higher, so do ticket prices, concession prices, and team gear prices go up. It is a big business. People feel more invested in their team with all that. People start thinking about spending $120/ ticket to take a family of four to the UGA game. Not to mention paying for concessions at the game. I bet it would cost a family of 4 to drive to a game like UGA, pay for tix, eats and a hotel about $1000 bucks for a weekend. When people fork out that kind of cash for a sport they feel like they have a right to express frustration at a coach that fricks up. That is where the big salaries fit in.

When you're making a multi-millions salary per year, your mistakes are magnified over the mistakes made by a minimum wage fry-cook. Period.

Mainly because your mistakes have the tendency to impact a LOT more people.

No, multi-millionaires don't and shouldn't get the same consideration for their mistakes as the fry-cook that overcooks ONE guy's burger.

Internet sharks jokes and the dilly dilly are hard things to accept, but death threats and www.one-up-manship isn't the type stuff any wife thought about... ask Ms Mac.

Bad internetting wasn't even a thing back in 1996 when Gene (and most current HC's) got married.

Bravo for Chiz for saying so, he's in an unique position to say so, and it isn't as much a reflection on AU as internet/world in general. How many of us would be behind bars (or beaten up) if half this shite was spoken to your wife?

I agree it's a lot of money. It costs me about a $1000 to attend a game from out West. That's parking at the airport, rental car, flight, and some meals for one person.

And if you spend that money and come to Auburn and then we have a 14 point lead at halftime and Gus thinks "we good!" and goes into his Malzashell and Auburn ends up losing, you aren't allowed to get on an internet forum or on Twitter and say "frick YOU GUS!" because that would just be mean and impolite.

Obviously his point is the criticism wouldn't be so vitriolic and threatening if people were not so anonymous, and I agree. I don't believe coaches don't expect not to receive criticism, but it gets quite out of hand by people hidden by anonymous names.

and I have no doubt I have done this, but why can't we express our negative remarks without all the very mean spirited and sometimes physical threats? What coach or his family making millions should be subjected to that form of criticism. It has crossed the line in my opinion.

I think it's fair what Chizik said.

A lot of people make personal/character attacks which is uncalled for

A coach can be shitty at his job and still a good person.

Is Chiz referring to a specific incident or just talking in general?
