I’d really prefer that Rhule not wear the intramural jersey on the sideline, though.

The argument that Rhule wouldn't be able to get 5-stars to Auburn is illogical. The Auburn name + Rhule's NFL experience + Rhule's collegiate success would absolutely draw the attention of elite recruits.
Now, whether they would actually have success at Auburn is the argument that permeates this thread and will permeate this forum's conversations for the foreseeable future. But to say Rhule wouldn't be able to recruit talent, especially if he hired quality coaches to help in that department like he did at Baylor, is HIGHLY unlikely...not impossible...but we're not talking about Bryan Harsin here...
ETA: Also, some of ya'll need to work on your sentence structure. Mine isn't great, but geez it's hard to make sense of some of these posts.

I agree with nearly all your post, with the exception of Harsin lack of ties to the SE as the problem. The problem seems to be he doesn't like to recruit. Many outsiders have succeeded in the SE.

A lot of good coaches could recruit great talent to Auburn.
The problem is Auburn has recent history of coaches who have given up the will to do so - given the squeeze of UA and UGA. They turned to the developer/schemer mindset. This is Bowden, Tuberville, and I guess Malzahn - although I'm not sure what he was doing. Harsin never was a raw talent recruiter. The situation simply needs to be avoided.

Why would we make a coaching change for fricking Grimes.
Posted on 10/24/22 at 3:38 pm to MrLahey
Yeah just go ahead and give Harsin the 3-4 year full on shot before hiring that dude
Posted on 10/24/22 at 4:25 pm to MrLahey
If we spent $40 million in 2 years for Grimes we are truly dumbasses

I get the idea but I think the whole "why'd we spend 40m to hire ____" narrative just doesn't reflect the reality on the ground. Almost all coaching changes go like that. It's an extreme rarity to get rid of a guy and go out and get an established sure-thing.
I just don't think the idea that we're going to hire a very obvious upgrade from Gus is realistic, and it probably wasn't realistic 2 years ago either. It was always going to be trying to find a guy with a relatively high floor (like Gus) with more upside than Gus, even if very speculative.
Let's go through the currently discussed names:
Grimes - Unclear on floor or upside, we're just speculating on both.
Sanders - Same. Might say high upside, but that's based mostly on non-football preconceptions, could have a very low floor, no way to know.
Freeze - Perhaps he fits, he's probably a high floor guy with perhaps a small amount more upside than Gus (though I'm personally not convinced of that).
Lane - Probably fits. Similarly high floor. Appears to have more upside even if not really elite upside.
Rhule - His resume doesn't really tell us much. Probably has solid upside via two turnarounds and NFL experience, but hard to do the translation from his prior jobs.
Dell McGee - I'd say too speculative. I think it's a high upside, potentially lower floor deal though, like Deion or arguably Grimes.
Etc.
Perhaps more importantly, right now we're trying to do better than Bryan Harsin. If you really want to get depressed about it, if the current UCF coach had spent eight 8-9 win seasons at Arkansas instead of Auburn, he'd probably be the most realistic and sure-thing candidate on our list.

The lack of OL, the bowl game record, record vs UGA, record vs LSU, lack of player development, and his offense being outdated would all be huge question marks about the fictional Arkansas coach

What day this week should we plan to hear the AD hire has been pushed back?
Posted on 10/25/22 at 8:40 am to Poker Dough
I 100% feel Harsin gets another year and it has killed all of my football enthusiasm. I can't even get rustled. Usually I am dreading Arkansas at this time of the season.

The longer the hire takes the better the hire will be, form what I’ve been told
