If they didn't, would it be a message board?

I think Hartline is going to be a star. Elite recruiter already, and his offensive chops look great thus far.

i would counter that and say it's probably easy to succeed as a position coach at OSU as long as you're not an idiot. it's a well-oiled machine over there where you plug and play. he's probably a good coach though. just hard to say with certainty at this point, in my opinion.

and i don't think we should hire someone who has only been a passing game coordinator & wide receivers coach. this is not the "learn on the job" type of place

Mine as well.

Not to mention he’s never coached anywhere else, and has spent his entire career in the state of Ohio.

Would be as much of a gamble as Deion from a coaching perspective.

So I’m paying my bills today, and it just dawned on me that Harsin is going to get $15 mil to go away.

I really should’ve taken steroids and amped up my tone and become a college football coach.

I get those concerns, it’s just that with Auburn’s current predicament, I think we need to take a unique approach and try to find a rising star. I tend to think a lot of the candidates being thrown around, even the upper tier ones, would just fall into the Kirby-Saban vacuum with the auburn job. I think high level recruiting is the #1 trait we need, maybe targeting a rising star who seems to have “it” is a gamble but I think any hire is a gamble in our current state.

Heh.

Barrett Sallee on Twitter:

Here's the thing with Auburn and Hugh Freeze ... if Auburn's admin gives him control, he will kill it there. That's possible. The reason Harsin isn't working is because he wasn't "their guy." If the powers-that-be get "their guy," they are much more likely to step back a bit.

Who knows at this point.

I had a bigger takeaway from that exchange.

#1: Harsin has completely lost the Auburn beat, considering that the Sports Editor of the local paper is shitting all over him.

#2: I had suspicions that Barrett was one of the writers Hugh uses to get his name out in news cycles for jobs, and this pretty much confirmed it.

Harsin had full control, he drove it into a ditch. Full control can work both ways. No PTB would have hired the OC and DC. None.

I wrote a whole-arse post about this. He's been given free-reign to do as he pleases. He's been left alone. Hired and fired whoever he wanted. He even got zero pushback for letting a legacy QB transfer off the team; no one stopped him.

Justin Lee is right: Harsin just sucks in this conference. Has literally nothing to do with the boosters. What, they didn't give him money for NIL? He doesn't even believe in recruiting like that anyway (and I've repeated this like ten times now).

Came to say this... guy literally picked entirely his own staff. Maybe the boosters didn't pony up NIL but that's their prerogative.

Also people seem to forget that all of the player transfers, coordinator losses, and terrible recruiting classes happened BEFORE the investigation.

Head coach at James Madison. Head coaching record is phenomenal. Recruited Russell Wilson and coached Philip Rivers. Bama recruiting coordinator 2007-2010.

There is no way that is true. Coach Harsin is changing the bad culture he inherited and is just getting his guys in place. Its a process and takes time.

Plus, dude is excellent in interviews an will give injury info and no coach speak

If I didn’t know who was in charge, I’d swear Gus was still HC: signing 1 Olineman, calling over and over slow developing pass plays when the Oline can’t block for 1.5 seconds, getting cutesy during games that backfires and begins the snowball effect, etc. All he’s missing are a pair of moobs.
