Yep. And I kinda think Jackson is going to get it turned around. No rational reason, but I think the kid has another gear that he hasn’t unlocked yet.

People said the same thing about Bryan Harsin.

People have said the same thing about coaches that happened to be great too.

Steven is the great unknown. No one knows how this will turn out.

We can only hope for the best. I have been an Auburn fan for over 50 years. You take a chance with any new hire. Our basketball program is not something to put at risk without very careful consideration.

........and the same thing about Dye. You probably weren't around then. IF you were, you know Auburn fans were not happy with the hire. "Wyoming HC? Seriously"? That one turned out o.k..

But only 15% of the playbook has been installed . It should reach 32% by UGA and then look out!

In fairness to the fans, he had his hot tub interview then he was announced

No one really even knew the guy

I was around when Shug Jordan was HC. Most people were pretty happy when Coach Dye was hired. His answers in his interview won us over.

I was also. Born in '65. When he was first hired, Auburn fans were not happy. The press conference "60 minutes" quote fired up Auburn people, but he didn't win over the fanbase until after his second year at Auburn.

Tony Barbee was a great number two also

He was, but these are very different situations so the comparison fails imo. Barbee left the program where he was a great number 2 to go to a program that was at the bottom. Steven is taking over at a program he's been at for 11 years and the program is at the highest point it's ever been.

Those facts are not debatable.

What he inherits is one thing. What he does himself is another.

I hope he does well, if he's just 4/5 of the coach his Dad is we should be happy. I'm just happy that I can now follow AU BB this year.

Actually a lot of fans were on board with him when he was asked how long it would take for Auburn to beat Alabama and he said "60 minutes."

i was in school at AU when Dye was hired

i disagree with the statement “Auburn fans were not happy” - most were bummed that we couldn’t close the deal on Dooley, but given his success at UGa it wasn’t surprising that he turned us down

and back in 1980 ‘Auburn people’ = the fanbase, we had virtually no sidewalk fans during that era

i also contend that Dye had the full support of the fanbase in 1981, based on how a largely talentless team took several much better opponents like UTee, Nebraska, UGa and Bama well into the second half despite being completely outgunned, and beat two of our then-annual rivals GA Tech and Florida

With all of the bitching about the timing of the announcement and Steven getting the job, has anyone mentioned Michael Wilbon's comments yesterday?

I saw a clip this morning from yesterday's Pardon the Interruption show where Tony Kornheiser brought up Bruce retiring and Wilbon's response was basically good riddance, he's so divisive I hope he was forced out.

Yea, he is getting rightfully shite on for those comments. They were absurd.
