I wish we had made a bowl game.

I’m old though so I’m not the market.

I don’t disagree in that regard. Just in terms of the general landscape of college football.

There was a time a January bowl game meant every bit as much to me as a win over LSU in September

The bowl games still matter, people just quit caring. If Auburn were winning bowl games, we would be hanging our hat on it. Instead, were on year 4 of losing seasons and no one gives a shite. Sad times

Of course they matter. In today’s game bowl games are life and death. If you lose, just implode the program. There’s no point in continuing

Yes.

They give your team more practice time. They give your program more credibility. They get your program talked about more. It puts money in your pocket and the conferences pocket.

Making a bowl game does not mean your program is a contender.

Limping to Birmingham, Nashville, Tampa, or Memphis at 6-6 and losing to another mediocre team is pitiful.

Not being good enough to make a bowl game is pathetic.

It mattered to Bert Bulemia and Shane Beamer yesterday.

I was listening to College Football Channel on Sirius yesterday while bama was playing Michigan.

They weren't talking about the game much less broadcasting it - and this is 2 blueblood teams - albeit a bit down.

Outside of the CFP bowls, fan and player interest will wane for the most part. Esp for lesser (6-6) bowls in less appealing locations.

No, they don't. Most schools/ADs lose money on them. With the transfer portal opening prior to bowl season any given team is likely to lose a significant portion of the depth that benefits most from the extra practice time. Coaches are stretched thin during that time trying to manage rosters. Wins in those games mean little, even to fans.

The bowls are dying a slow death. Put them out of their misery.

I like having the games on in background and Vegas likes the gambling. I would play younger guys though. I agree they are going down but they don’t have to be. Maybe you just give non playoff teams portal advantages or recruiting advantages- like NFL does with draft order.

If players are in a game they should want to win. Getting the W matters.

I agree. That is becoming more and more in question, though.

1. They’re simply post-season scrimmages at this point.

2. The premise of extra practice is from a bygone era. The portal eliminates the value of “extra practice.”

3. No one is traveling to watch shitty teams duke it out nor are they watching it on tv.

Sorry dude but they are traveling and putting money into our economy. We get renters south of Tampa for those bowl games typically. When we haven't been trashed by Hurricanes....

There were some weird weather games recently that likely hurt some stadium shots but so far it has seemed that bowls have been well attended.

I think anytime Auburn plays on the east coast you'll have more than enough local fans willing to pay to seem them closer to home than Auburn is. Probably goes for most larger SEC schools

Freeze should be required to watch the entire forth quarter of Notre Dame and Georgia.....Every day during the summer.

Maybe he'll finally understand how to take command of the clock ......and create special team play.,

Freezus is guaranteed to make a minimum of $15 million over the next 36 months no matter what he does as an HC

in that regard he can’t be “required” to do anything

These games matter to some fans and players.
Extra practice time is a plus in some ways unless you need to fill a roster.

Watching the SERCPRO bowl and it seems like the teams are having fun. Fans get to travel to some places to have a little vacation and catch a game. I think it would be cool to see a game in Yankee & Fenway Stadiums.

I don't like the playoffs taking up bowl games though. Would rather see other teams play in the Rose, Sugar Cotton etc and keep the playoffs out of those bowls. I think having the playoffs in those bowls kind of cheapens those bowl games. Of course this is my opinion. If teams didn't want to go they have that option to not go.
