I'm actually shocked at the mostly level-headed responses you guys have had to this article (seriously!).
Yeah, there probably is some sour grapes here, because the writer's team isn't doing so hot, but we should definitely keep our guard up and not accept mediocrity just because someone is the head coach of the team we love.
Always hold authority figures to the highest of standards, especially when they make as much as they do.

That one sentence tells me all I need to know. Sounds like the Idaho version of some of these AL.com asshats who get their feelings hurt when Coach won't answer their stupid questions.
There are plenty of head coaches today and through the history of the sport who have won plenty of games who weren't exactly nice guys. They are, or were, not easy to work for. They're demanding. There's no time or room in that profession for grown arse men to be worried about saying something that might hurt their assistant coaches little fragile feelings.
I mean, I've watched or listened a lot of media of Harsin over the past ten months and I haven't come away feeling like he is a jerk or unlikeable at all. He seems like he expects those around him to live up to a standard of excellence and put everything they've got into what is trying to be built. And I don't think that crosses any line of being unrealistic. It's actually the very least that is expected. Harsin and Auburn are fine and will be fine. It's going to take time because he didn't exactly walk into the best, most stable situation here.

Not sure what you are talking about. I have been neutral on Harsin at AU. Gus failed to recruit OLmen. That isn't a big shocking statement. I don't recall making that exact statement regarding GA St. None of that changes Harsin's record at BSU or the roster he left. Those are real data points anyone can pull up.

That is funny, but it is pretty much the same rule when a big family gets together. First one to leave is the one who gets talked about.
As far as the article, this seems to be a pretty standard attempt to rationalize an underperforming year. Tell people you have no idea how poorly stocked you were by the last group etc.
Now I think that changes some with the transfer portal as players might actually leave with the coach, but I don't think we raided the Boise pantry :)
I hope Harsin succeeds. But I also hoped Gus would become a great coach. I like most of what I see on the field, but we also need to remind ourselves winning the games you should win is not enough if four or more teams you play every year are out recruiting you by a large margin.
I would be happy enough this year if we got a top 15 recruiting ranking -- but that would probably only put as at 5th or sixth this year in the SEC.
I don't think we will be in the national hunt every year, but some better recruitment, combined with better development should have us competing every few cycles.

He treats the media harshly?
Like mean tweets?
I’m inclined to like him more.

This article makes me feel really yucky.
They Harsin did a terrible job with OL recruiting.... yet he already is recruiting more OL than Gus.....
Just how bad did we have it?

That is funny,
What it shows is, people will argue points that they either dont know what they are talking about or that they dont care about just to think they are right
Basically selective argumentation. It would be great if people actually had a opinion that was based on what they thought and discussed that instead of just going along with todays mob mentality.
Some of the things I have read on here the past couple of years have certainly made my IQ drop a few points and I promise you, I dont have that many to spare
Be genuine, discuss your point. And be willing to have a different opinion even if it not in line with the mob

How many times have we heard about Saban being an a-hole and being difficult to work for? I say keep on keeping on Harsin.

I dont care who is hard to work with. If he gets the job done, then thats all that matters
But honestly, I have some contact with guys who play and have played for Nick Saban and they all seem to love him. Apparently, he is not the arse that he appears to be with the media. His players seem to really like him.

Despite jumping off the Gus bandwagon before you I’m still slow to jump on the bandwagon and slow to get off. It’s not a week by week basis or anything like that. I’m certainly not as bipolar as the Nix dudes.
Harsin is our guy and I support him. He is new and young and he made a big step coming to Auburn. Tomorrow night I hope the crowd is rowdy and he just sits back and thinks this is amazing. This is still his honeymoon season so I’m not writing him off. I stand by my concerns though.
Harsin is a different breed of a coach but I don’t think that means he will do well. He is not as immersed in the game so he cannot be accused of meddling. He also sounds like Saban as far as work ethic goes in front of the camera, and it seems like his character will fit in well at Auburn, but I stand behind my concerns in this thread. He cannot just stand back to oversee inferior players play. I have concerns about recruiting and player development at the LOS. Hopefully they’re put to ease soon by the product on the field, but nothing can be said on here to change that. We have a veteran OL made up of below average to average players this year and the play has been at best spotty- dependent on the talent that we are facing, so Harsin still has a ton of work to do to shore up stability. If he expects his players to play as tough as he acts he should never have lines that play like they are outmatched. So I’m surprised Harsin’s lines at Boise weren’t all that great when his team should’ve recruited better than anybody in his conference given the prestige Peterson put on the program.

I support Harsin but it's ok to support and still question some things and be critical even in a first year. He's proven nothing so far at AU. Hell we could lose 3-4 more games this season. Who is going to be happy with a 6 and 7 record?
If he can recruit top 10ish each year we can have a chance if we win some tough games during a season. If he can't finish above top 15ish then we will battle Arky/MSU/OM for 4th place each year in the division.

Totally agree with that
Btw keeping with the Nick Saban theme, if one of his daughters has topless pics on the internet like Saban’s please let me know….so I can pray for them.

Saying he has proven nothing isn’t accurate. You can see the culture he is instilling in the program and that he is demanding of knowing your role and executing it. If you can’t see some of his influence foe the better already than I don’t know what to say.
I also agree you can support him and still have critique of things, but I disagree that he has proven nothing.

Exactly my point. Saban is viewed as an a-hole because he will not settle for mediocrity. He will get on one's arse. He is never satisfied and is always looking to improve.
