Everyone, just giving a heads up on a request that was made from Chicken on board maintenance. They have asked that the team boards stop having never-ending megathreads for things, sans recruiting.

Season long threads are fine for each non-team related sport we want to do one for (like non-auburn related things if those wanted to start getting discussed more), but they've asked that a new one be done for each season. I feel like we normally do that anyways, but that is why a lot of the stickied threads were un-stickied.

So, figured with this being game week and all, this would be a good opportunity to get everyone's thoughts on how they would like to operate with those new rules in mind? I think we do a good job with the weekly game threads for football, so really it is more basketball and baseball where we have a little less activity in.

When it comes to Auburn related sports, they've asked for season long threads to go away. The reasoning being that it is hurting the team board activity and traffic and the ease of posters to get and find information easily when visiting.

Unfortunately thems the rules from on top. Concerns have been voiced on the admin board, but as of right now this is what they want.

I can get on board with digging up a buried thread but I see no issue with posting in a frequently used season-long thread when necessary. I also dont see how having extra clutter on the board equals more activity. We really dont have an activity problem either. We might not have a page full of threads that say "NEW" but that's okay.

The only moderate justification for no season long thread is information can get buried, but that's a double edged sword to whoever uses that argument because if the thread is taken away and you're trying to dig up information you have to remember which thread, and which poster created it. Lastly I am not convinced more threads equal more action. Content spurs action. If someone creates an Auburn vs UNA basketball thread then its probably not going to get much conversation, especially if we are not good! The OGs remember the basketball threads...

I agree. I think the activity argument standpoint is people coming to the board and not seeing any new posts, so they don't stay and interact and they don't want to try and filter through pages of a megathread to find something. And we are prone to get very off topic for a lot of pages around here . I get that.

I'm also with you though that the clutter side is nice having a season thread for a sport to discuss everything, but I think that really only helps those that are here constantly.

Football season it won't really make much of a difference anyways as we have a new game thread each week anyways for the game. We'll see how it goes as we get into basketball season.

Has Chicken taken a gander at the Political Talk board? It’s got some of the most flagrantly racist, misogynistic, xenophobic and bigoted content rife with misinformation and thread after thread of diatribes of one group of people over another. And he wants to regulate how many threads we start for our team?

There is no problem with engagement on the poli board. It's not a bad thing that it's not a safe space for you to keep from getting your feelings hurt.

As you mentioned, football is mostly game threads + some temporary fall/spring camp threads.

Recruiting has occasional offshoots for dramatic recruits, transfer portal periods, etc

I think basketball can evolve to game threads. We’ve debated it here before anyways.

Don't drag your Poli issues over here Brooky. Go to the Help Board and ask to speak to the manager. I'm sure you've got experience in that area.

Probably.

Game threads are fine and welcomed. The aim is to more eliminate the season long type ones, like the basketball season thread that we have.

This is a capitalist country, just stop visiting this website and join another. Problem solved. You don't get to request censorship for something you have no control over.

With that being said, I do agree with what Chicken said - I don't always checked the pinned and/or super long threads, while I do with shorter ones. Becomes too much, at a certain point, for casual engagement.
