As a guy in the event industry in Birmingham, I'd like to offer any of you shiftless freeloaders who are coming up a cigar and a dram, but I think I'm going to be out of town that week. Christmas stuff and Daughter's 16th
If that changes, whisky is on me
Let's not get beat by Houston, shall we

decline the invite. This is embarrassing.

Why would we decline the invite and lose the extra 15 practices? Plus how does that look as a program?
“We don’t like our bowl invite, but our 6-6 record earned it. So we’re going to take our toys and go home to pout”

It's modest risk - modest reward for our circumstances. The program needs momentum, and right now the only way to do that is to hire a decent OC, finish strong in recruiting and win a bowl.
Granted, it would be a much better situation if we were playing a bigger program, even a bigger program that's worse than Houston. In a vacuum, the upside for the big program in these games is zilch. But nothing we can do about it. Harsin needs to pour a lot of energy into winning this one. I actually think it's a pretty big game for Auburn (not historically, but for the Harsin era).

The only downside is losing a bowl game. Way more upside with the reward for guys (yes I said reward), practice, competition etc.
We will get a lot of quality assessment prior to spring practice.

Cincinnati ran all over Houston. With Bobo gone, hopefully the next guy is smart enough to feed Tank and Cowboy the ball.

Don’t early enrollees get to practice with the team as well? That could be huge for the development of young players.

Agreed and I think I'm going. Does anyone know which sideline Auburn will be on? I've never bought bowl game tickets before.

I had already made travel plans for that week.
Maybe next year.

Brahms out due to foot surgery. Imo we have too many key injuries and will not get a W

Not sure the sideline but looks like sections 119-131 and second deck 219-231 should get you with the Auburn folks.
It only sits 45K.

What is there to gain from playing in this bowl? You have a point about practices, but the B’Ham bowl has long been a mockery of bowls. Pretty sure SEC shorts did a skit on a couple years ago. They could atleast rename it to something other than Birmingham.

Yep. I agree. If we win, then it’ll be “so what, we beat Houston in Birmingham” …. But the consequences of losing will set the new coach back big time, similar to Gus crapping the bed against UCF.

The reps are pretty much the only material gain needed to justify it.

For most of its life it hasn't been called the Birmingham Bowl. First 8 iterations it was the PapaJohns.com Bowl or BBVA Compass Bowl.
We used to host the old Hall of Fame Bowl/All-American Bowl before it moved to Tampa and became the Outback Bowl.

Practice for your younger players. They will probably get an extra scrimmage as well.
Have to remember all those calling for D. Davis all damn year he was the scout team QB so he hasn't even been running our offense. So 10-15 practices for him is like another spring training

Do you know if there's a requirement to show proof of vac or neg test within 72 hrs? Couldn't locate anything specifically stating.

Anyone that suggests skipping a bowl is pretty dumb, and I'd fire any coach that suggested it on the spot.
Those extra practices are that valuable.
