I heard mentioned on the radio this morning that she is the granddaughter of one of the most prominent Bama boosters. The radio guy said "of the Paul Bryant era". Does that mean she is related to the Bryant's? Or who was the big booster back in the Bear days?

You know it's bad when Finebaum is on Birmingham radio firing shots across the bow of "certain Auburn beat writers being mouthpieces for a certain booster or group of boosters".

Finebaum used to love nothing more than to stir the Auburn pot but now even he is coming out in defense of the admin and taking shots at writers. Either he's gotten soft in his age, or the AU media is really, really terrible.

Yeah, I just went on a quick search about her and her family. Looks like her grandfather was Sloan Bashinsky who worked his way up to the top dog of Golden Enterprises aka Golden Flake back in the day. Some big computer lab at Tuscaloosa bears the Bashinsky name. Which was a $3MM gift from her family in the mid 90s.

Looks like Cohen is Jewish, so I’m sure that’s a big plus with Pearl.

The Bashinsky’s were not boosters, they were philanthropists. Their trust also gave an over $8M gift to Auburn in 2021…..as well as Samford, Big Oak ranch, and Alabama.
It also was not their first gift to Auburn. We just haven’t named buildings after them, although there is a scholarship bearing their name

Interesting note, Sloan Bashinsky is an Oaks Society member so the family has given to Auburn Athletics.

Sources: Auburn is finalizing a deal today to make Mississippi State’s John Cohen the next athletic director. The final details are being worked out on a five-year contract and an announcement is expected later today.
