Most of our recent rosters have been made up of lower level transfers. There have been some major hits and some major duds. I don't anticipate everyone we signed this year being a major hit, we just need most of them to hit.
I'm but one man, but my highest hopes are in Dowd, Mantas, and Oboye (as a defensive menace). If the Vandy transfer can be an adequate 3rd guard, Overton and Pettiford can give us what they gave late last season, and Dowd/Mantas/Oboye meet expectations, I think we'll be above average.
Then you have Owen Freeman, who could really swing us into the upper tier if he regains his early career form. And Olsen from USA is an elite shooter. Sometimes those guys prove they can hang in power conference ball, and sometimes they're totally unplayable. Ngoy, Walker, Williams are just add-ons if they give us anything. Ngoy in theory is the backup 5 but I am skeptical he will translate. I hope I am way off but the tape doesn't show me much so I could see Freeman playing the 4 and 5 to remove the need to play Ngoy

What makes you think oboye will translate better than ngoy? Feels like that's a crapshoot because they played about the same level. I agree with your overall statement though, as long as one pans out that's all you can hope for

The level of competition that they have faced are night and day. The French 2nd div is about the same level as D2

Uhh wtf? Ngoy was just drafted in the second round by the Hawks. Was anyone expecting that?? We just lost him
Edit: apparently it’s a “draft and stash” pick and they’ve only drafted his rights. He did not go through any draft process. He’ll still be at Auburn next year.

How was he still in the draft? I guess he can still play for Auburn and they hold his rights? This would be the first time this has happened.

From espn:

Ngoy is an auto-eligible prospect committed to play at Auburn. He can still play college basketball next season, with the Clippers retaining his draft rights whenever he enters the pro ranks. If that is the case, this would effectively be the first NCAA draft-and-stash selection in league history, an interesting case study with the college landscape continuing to shift. -- Woo

Like they said it will be very interesting to see how this plays out. I could definitely see this being the next domino to fall that you can draft a guy late in the second round who showed promise their freshman year and retain their rights hoping they make a sophomore leap and then they are yours

I have discussed this many times on the basketball thread since the Baylor/ Bediako bullshite.
The NBA has been doing draft and stash for decades ever since Dirk Nowitki really.
Well now that Europeans flock to America for NIL they realized the college game makes more sense to stash players than overseas where it is much more difficult to track their development. If we can become a farm league for the NBA I am all for it.

No it isnt. The Baylor guy was a draft and stash.

If tweet fails to load, click here. What is under appreciated is the talking point can the Clippers apply pressure to get Ngoy on the court even if he's not the best 5.

Keyshawn Hall has signed with the heat. Keshawn Murphy signed with the wizards. Both summer league deals so will take some work to stick around

Got to hand it to Coach Pearl. Getting dudes drafted before they even see the court. Really coming into his own as a coach.

Not exactly the same, but technically Larry Bird was drafted by the Celtics after his Jr season yet returned to play his final season in college. So, not entirely unprecedented.

What I’m hearing is that we just signed Larry Bird
That could work.
That could work.

I mean, I don’t know about y’all, but on paper this team looks legit
We will have better shooting, better defense because of an inside presence this year.
Final Four LFG WDE

Tell'em. People were saying the same thing last year. We have too many pieces that haven't played at this level before to be too confident.

I’m cautiously optimistic..
