So the Chuck Person news breaks and we go with the SEC regular season title, then we stop recruiting for 7 months and we go to the Final Four...so now maybe we should stop recruiting altogether?
BTW, this is a brilliant move by our compliance department.

What makes it brilliant?
(General question. Not a comment on whether it’s brilliant or not).

Get out in front of the problem instead of sitting on their hands and not doing anything waiting on the NCAA axe to fall. There was a time where everything would have been business as usual until the notice from the NCAA arrived.

I’m curious why the recruiting ban comes into play, I guess. I think one of the more positive developments in this whole ordeal was the idea that Auburn didn’t commit recruiting infractions. So i’m curious why compliance drafted this idea.
Do any of you see this as a clue to the infractions that basketball program could face as a result?

Perhaps, and I'm spit balling, but to show that Auburn was taking the allegations against Person seriously, we are going to self hammer ourselves now rather than wait on sanctions down the road.

Not getting the NOA yet is interesting too. Talk about a slow process. It’d be nice to get away from this sooner than later.
I’m not disagreeing with anything being said so far. Just curious to the why behind these things.

quote:There's only so many ways to punish a program. We had the players/families pay back the money, the coach was fired, the players in question sat at least an entire season. We could have reduced scholarships I guess, but we effectively did that by sitting the players for a season. Severe recruiting restrictions is one of the few additional punishments left

I thought that if there was one, it would have gone out immediately following sentencing for Person.

Good point. I don’t follow b-ball recruiting closely but I do remember there being a long stretch there where nothing happened. Who did that hurt us with (specifically, I mean. I realize that an 8 month recruiting ban hurts us with everyone in theory ) ?

EVERYBODY!!!1!!2!
I have no clue. One of our resident BB recruiting experts might know whom this ban impacted the most
...or maybe it made us seem more exclusive and desirable denying requests from 5* recruits

It will be awesome if we get a letter from the NCAA commending us on our work and accepting our penalties. We should create a gif with the Football letter from 2011 and the basketball letter side by side if that happens.

I think it was assumed by us that we were short handed and just focused on weathering the storm, not recruiting. As far as who we lost. Nobody that we know of.

In the past, the NCAA likes to hit you right before your season begins. So, if the NCAA acts like the old days, if we get a NOA letter, then it will come right before basketball season starts...
