Get out in front of the problem instead of sitting on their hands and not doing anything waiting on the NCAA axe to fall. There was a time where everything would have been business as usual until the notice from the NCAA arrived.
I really hope this holds water. What I am worried about is with the NCAA getting such a black eye on this thing that they feel, that even though the school punished itself it many more ways, that the NCAA will think it is not enough and slap punishment on us that we wouldnt have wanted to do (forfeit games)....

Other schools had far worse violations and implemented much less punishment. I understand we are dealing with the NCAA, but the optics would be embarrassingly bad if they punished us harshly while letting some of these other schools skate

Seems like Auburn didn't cancel anything that was previously scheduled

Apparently Jaylin Williams visited that March for the USC game as well. There are holes in the report that aren’t helping us. This is AL.com that we are talking about though.

Tweet from Sam Blum indicating some clarity
"The story is updated with clarity on that situation. Apparently, Auburn had previously scheduled visit with AOT to come to a game before Chuck Person's arrest. So they allowed it to happen. But no other visits were permitted."

Still doesn’t explain how we secured a commitment and Jaylin visiting in March.

We don't know the exact details the athletics department shared with Blum. I don't believe there are any quotes in the AL.com article from our AD.
It looks like all recruiting between the dates noted was called off except for anything planned before the Chuck Person arrest, which would probably include the AOT team as well as Jaylin's visit. Babatunde was on the trip with the AOT, so that might've been all he needed to experience to decide Auburn was the place he wanted to play.

We are both obviously speculating here. He actually committed before that visit in February. It’s just strange.

Let me add my guess. NCAA going in dry.
(I'm kidding. Don't shoot the nerd.)

Imagine that, AL.com sucking arse per usual.

Only AL.com could screw it up that bad. Was supposed to have been a positive report. Getting ahead of the curve type deal. Read the comments in the thread: Notwithstanding the article saying Bruce directed all questions toward compliance, it is now assumed that either Bruce or the AD was lying about the sanctions, or cheating their way out of their own rules. Can’t screw up the article any more than this unless it was sublime sabotage.

It just seems like this could’ve been easily verified with a 60 second google search... but apparently that’s too much to ask for al.com.

brilliant move by our compliance department
Totally disagree. It will not help. I predict we still get sanctions. I have yet to see a team do the self-punishment thing and not still get hit.

I warned the board several months back that Sam Blum would eventually douche things up

Remember when Sam Blum thought he had unearthed the biggest sports story of the decade by stalking Danjel Purifoy’s mom on Facebook and seeing that she was selling t-shirts at cost?

Yahoo Forde got a hold of this. Trying to reach Shariffes dad, Kirk Sampson, anybody that will give him a story.

And only Auburn, with its long and storied tradition of athletic dysfunction, could turn a potentially positive compliance decision into a potentially massive negative.
You mean AL.com you dolt.

Sharife Cooper’s dads response is great.
