Co-Defensive Player of the Week
EUGENE ASANTE AUBURN
LB • Jr. Alexandria, Va.

Led Auburn in tackles for the second straight week, tallying a career-best 12 in the win at Cal, including nine solo stops.

Making his first career start, he also registered a TFL (1.5) and sack (1.0) for the second straight week and added two QB pressures and a pass breakup.

Came up with an 11-yard sack on third and 10 in the fourth quarter to push Cal to the brink of field goal range; the Bears then missed the attempt before Auburn drove down for the go-ahead score

Nine of his 12 tackles came in the second half, when Auburn held Cal scoreless.

The 10 points allowed in the game were tied for the fewest the Tigers have allowed against a Power 5 opponent since defeating Arkansas 34-3 on Sept. 22, 2018.

It's way early but this defense has the potential to keep in some games in which we should be getting our arse handed to us.

He should be, he was phenomenal Saturday. Congrats on the win, you guys sucked less than we did (both defenses aside). I have this bad dream of us lining up for a field goal, Asante running through untouched to block it, then he peels off to let Luckhurst kick cause he knows it'll be a shank. Sigh...

See y'all on the Plains next year, looking forward to the visit.

not yet, Wilcox is extremely quiet about injuries until he has to say something. We usually get updates on Tuesdays.

The worry is a concussion and how bad it was. Watching on TV there was a brief shot of him lying very stiff and his eyes were empty. He seemed to come to quickly but I have no doubt he was concussed. Years ago we had a terrifying situation with Jahvid Best in a similar circumstance (its on Youtube) so fans are extremely concerned. Jahvid was never the same that season after that injury. His was worse than Ott's but you don't mess around with player's brains no matter how vital he is to your pitiful offense.

He was in overdrive the whole game.
Congrats for a well deserved honor.

Cal running back Jaydn Ott leaves the game in the third quarter with an injury This guy gives POG to DJ James (?).

Sam Jackson V Thinks Cal RB Jaydn Ott Will Be OK (OK is not defined here. I wonder how he is feeling today...? Prolly in pain and like a bitch LOL).
His ego is expected to be out for the rest of the season.

No doubt concussions / potential brain damage is a HUGE concern for everyone and in virtually any other situation, with any other player injury ever, I would feel super bad for the kid, hope he can shake the cobwebs out and get back in the game ASAP. But not this time. Kid needed to learn a super valuable life lesson, and he chose to learn it the hard way. Head down, mouth shut. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. As I posted elsewhere, I sincerely hope is okay, soon, but not today or until he learns to check his mouth / ego. Good luck the rest of the season - will be pulling for you!

I can't remember an AU LB playing like that in a while. Deshaun Davis might have had a game or two like that, but it's been a while.

I was trying to think back to a dude dominating a game like that... D. Davis, Kris Frost, Josh Bynes maybe each had 1-2 games where they individually contributed that much.

Asante looked so explosive in the game though - moreso than those guys did. Eltoro Freeman came to mind though Eltoro never really seemed to put an entire game/season together.

Asante is reminding me of a Darren Bates right now just at a different position.

Saw the post game where they asked him about the "chatter" and he was smirking... That bulletin board material definitely hit.

If you are coming to Auburn, you will enjoy the warm welcome everywhere but on the field.
