Awesome. Thank you!! I signed up for presale alerts and never got anything. Gonna snag a couple for myself and the wife. Hopefully Messi actually plays but I could also see them resting their stars for the WC

He should play barring injury. Friendlies are more competitive than people give them credit for. They’re for reps with an oftentimes unfamiliar roster and getting into game shape.

Yea, that was fun to see. From what I can gather, this is close to double what a typical football weekend does for the area. So, while I think everyone would have preferred Baylor game at home, I'm glad the event was done as well as it was and I'm glad it was able to bring in even more revenue for the area than originally planned. It worked out well overall.

I wouldn’t buy that $27 million+ number for one second. The town was dead on Monday. Dead on Wednesday. And not even very busy in comparison to a normal gameday on Tuesday, which included a flash flood. And sales and use tax collections for June were only $300K more than FY25. The inflated total, imo, is being used to justify the move of the season-opener as if the soccer game really made up for the loss of revenue for the local economy. And they’ll use that inflated number to try to justify moving the next game for NIL.

That report just throws out occupancy rate as if there weren’t any other events happening, like a large Camp War Eagle session that ran that Monday and Tuesday. The city’s own sales and use tax revenue numbers are a blip for the soccer game and far below what a gameday weekend would bring in. Don’t believe me? Which video? There’s a bunch. And Camp War Eagle only hosts about 400 students per session so I’m not sure that really moves the needle on hotel occupancy.

Track’em makes some good points here.
It’s nice to host the big international soccer games, but he’s right that it is absolutely no substitute for a home game and using that as a justification for, for example, going to Atlanta in lieu of a home game will definitely hit the city hard.

So why not do both? I mean, how much more money did AU gain by having the game in ATL? That would be the interesting number. but are ancilary costs built in like concessions, bookstore sales, the cut from the tail gating?
These events were not on the same day so why not do both? Heck they could have even had a concert in the stadium the day after the soccer game which could have generated even more cash...by having the concert you may have holdovers from the game.
If I am misunderstanding the situation, please let me know.

No I agree.
But yeah the argument has been made that the soccer match somehow makes up for surrendering a home game to put money in the player’s pockets rather than the local economy in and around Auburn.
Auburn home games are a huge part of the economic health of the city.
